I have been searching for a 1/2 hour alone just to find out the damn color of the needle I'm suppose to put into the lancet. I have ones that say bayer and alot of different colors. This is crazy!!!!!!

i'm not familiar with the Bayer, but have you tried just using one of them and seeing if they fit? are the different colors for different size lancets, perhaps?

yes, I have about 7 different color... I want to use the suggested one 28 gauge. I am going to try searching on Amazon. I have tried 100 google searches.

Well, I think it's the green one... here goes, got to figure out what to bring as a treat... Geez... I've been at this since about 8pm and it's already after 10 and I haven't even gotten him in the room with a treat yet!

i just glanced at some of the posts that you had on Main Health. Hang in there - you'll get it! i never even saw a size on the lancets i used. there was just one box available to go with that particular device.

have you gotten advice on treats yet? i used to boil chicken breasts, cut them in tiny pieces (1/2" cubes), freeze most of it and keep enough for a couple of days in the fridge. then give one tiny piece after each poke session.

and a heads-up - it can be hard to get blood when you test for the first couple of weeks. there are tricks to help, but it takes a bit for the blood vessels to grow. testing stimulates the growth, so even if you don't get blood, it's not in vain. this is a disease that makes us all develop patience.

it gets easier - really. we'll help you with every step, so just keep asking questions.

Going to get chicken now and will get blood!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, well, that didn't go so well. He got mad. I poked myself, didn't draw blood even and it hurts like hell! I will try in a few hours.

:-D great attitude!

when you post in the morning, go ahead and start a new thread. then all day you can keep posting on that one. so every cat has one per day - that keeps everyone on the front page of Lantus Land so people get the help they need.

you can edit your first post of the day and change the subject line throughout the day to reflect any questions that you have. you can see that we have a format that we use, but until you're home-testing, you won't have numbers to post.

tomorrow's format would be:
today's date, cat's name, and for now, any questions.

it seems silly to have things like this, but it's a strategy to let people see at a glance who needs help so no one gets missed.

and welcome to Lantus Land!

Hi!
I know poking ears can be really stressful for both our kitties and us.
I use the bayer microlet device too, but I had no idea the lancets have different gauges. I just checked the box I have, but there is no reference on gauge. Tbh I never was interested on their gauge, as I was on the syringe needle gauge.
What may help you is adjusting the lancing depth. There is a dial at the end-cap that sets the lancing in 5 different lengths. I found that to draw blood from Miou and me, what worked best was the deepest length (5).
You might have to do a few trials to find what works best for you and your kitty

I hope you have a great day

Bayer Microlet Lancets are different colors to encourage humans to test their sugar more. A different color for each day of the week. They are all the same size.
