Question regarding the newbie kits

My bf ordered one last monday, and we still haven't gotten it yet! I'm eager to home test to see what Dopey's BG #'s are at......does anyone know how long the shipping takes??

Thanks!

send a pm here to lori and tom. she's the one handling the kits right now. i believe they are shipped priority mail so usually only a few days shipping. she's in southern california so if you are east coast or possibly in an area affected by all the bad weather lately, it may be delayed some.

either way though i would contact her so she's aware it's taking a while. that way if it doesn't show soon she can send another one asap.

Lori had a minor(?) CATastrophe a few days ago -- her TomTom caught a gopher and brought his kill into the house (cat-flap). She said it looked like a scene from CSI...

So -- may have caused a slight delay in Newbie kit prep...

especially since there were gopher guts in the vicinity of the newbie kit materials...

ewwwwwwww!!!! :o Yes, Dopey might be on board to be shipped some gopher guts, but I can do without those. ;-)

I will try to be patient, I'm just keeping an eye on dopey and still have him at the .5 un of insulin for now until I get his monitor.

Thanks for the info!!!

Ok just got pm and replied.
I recieved this request and becuase of the unconfirmed address and something else I emailed the person with the email offered by paypal joined to the requesting party's account.
Never heard back.
I feel terrible about this...I had Sue (Oliver) on the lookout for a 'Rodney' and at somepoint I made a post asking for a person requesting a kit in your area...
Newbie Kit's go out pretty immediatley and this is terrible.
I hope to hear back from you as the pay pal was not sure the addy was valid...(and something else...can't remember)
I have one ready to go for you
And again...sorry for the delay.
Check out the emails on the account you used ok?
Lori
and Tomtom too!

And for all the other beans who replied..my golpher story
Neither rain, nor snow, nor wind nor nothing gets in the way of a Newbie Kit going out.
They are my 'pet' project and too important to go unsent.

ok, no response to pm...actually was never opened to I am about to mail off newbie kit to unconfirmed and unelidgable address. just writting this here so if dear sue bee does not recieve you will all know i've done all i could to get it to her.
sue...you should recieve by saturday if PO is operating that day due to Easter. Usually takes a NK 2 days to arrive.
Let me know k?

OMG!! I knew I shouldn't have let my bf handle this! (no offense to men out there, but he's not very good at "attention to details" sometimes!!!) I'm waiting for him to call me so I can chew on him some =)

Lori, I will PM you the address, hopefully it's the "unconfirmed" one that is on his account.

nailbite_smile nailbite_smile nailbite_smile

suebee i figured it was long enough of a wait so i mailed it out yesterday morning...you should recieve it tomorow (saturday) if the PO is open due to holiday.
i sure hope it's the right address....i sent some nice goodies for you guys.

Lori, thanks so much, we got the kit!! I did a curve on Dopey yesterday, his #'s were so high!!

So I'm upping his dose of Lantus to 1 unit from the .5 I was giving him.

Luna, my non FD kitty, was VERY interested in the box, and everytime I have the kit down, is all over it. I think she smells Tom =)

They love the mousie, thanks for that!

Dopey is a trooper, I think the worst thing about the poking for him is holding the rice sock on his ear. He doesn't care for that too much. But he loves those chicken treats, so he runs over to get poked. He got my sweats a lil bloody though because he shook his head before I could put pressure on his ear with a cotton ball. I'm sure everyone has gone through that.

I grew up in SoCal, you live in an awesome spot! =)

Thanks again for the great kit, Dopey is my furry bundle of joy, I just want him to get better!!!

whoa Sue!!!! cool your jets girl
you don't raise the dose on one number...not yet...please get a series of numbers becuase sometimes a number is high due to TOO MUCH INSULIN ok.

OK, having said that. and i see you are off board so i may pm you to get your attn. hopefully pm's show up on your email box.
you can't just double the dose like that....not without some significant data.
next. pokie the ear as close to the very edge as possible to avoid hitting a vein and getting too much blood.
finally the rice sock only needs to be used if his witty bitty ear is cold..and then you warm it in the micro for just a few secs and then only hold it on his ear for a few secs. and then with a little massaging you should have blood flow.

and luna darling...the girls all go crazy for the very scent of my handsome, gentlemanly yet powerful and debonair Tom. I will let him know that perhaps you are enjoying the scent of him and he may request a photo of you...on your avatar perhaps? he is not spoken for...but a guy like tomtom may be a bachelor forever. He's sooooo in demand.

Are you sure she's not just smelling the square cute catnip pillow I sent?

Hi Lori! I did the blood curve, all day poking his ear every 2-3 hrs, starting with the AMPS. The lowest his # got (his "nadir" point, I guess people call it) was in the mid 200's. (I don't have his exact #'s in front of me) I have been giving him .5 UN ever since 4-7-11 as well as immediately getting off his Hills Science Diet C/D and putting him on Evo canned.

He "blew" a 486 for his AMPS. I thought his #'s wouldn't be so high still after regulating his diet and getting him on insulin.

His symptoms of chugging water and peeing tons went away after a couple days of new diet and insulin and haven't come back.

So I thought I would raise the dose to 1 UN (which is what the vet recommended initally) but I wanted to change his food first and w/o having his BG #'s, didn't think switching his food and giving him that much of a dose was a good idea right away but I think it's a good time now.

Luna, the maine coon, does love catnip, so maybe that's why she's all over the box?? I'll put the little pillow in her tower later today...Catnip doesn't do a thing for Dopey, never has....She does love smelling other cats though......Dopey doesn't appreciate it when she smells his behind though ;-)

Hi Sue,
It would be great if you could start a spread sheet so we who can help you....can help you.
do you know how to start it...darned if i can tell you. let me see if i can get you some help. ok.
would you pm me you phone # as it is easier if you don't know how to set it up to have someone walk you thru on the phone.
Lori

I downloaded the template for my spreadsheet onto my work pc. My pc has internet issues at home (I'm at work, SHHHHHH =) I shouldn't really be chatting about Dopey, but he's more important to me!!! Also, I tried to put a pic of dopey (and/or Luna) up as my avatar, but it says all my pics are "too big" (too much info I guess) to use it!! :YMSIGH:

I have been recording all the info ever since I found out his condition April 7th, (besides his BG #'s since I just started that yesterday) I just have to take yesterdays #'s and plug it into here. I forgot them at home today =(

I will PM you my cell # though =)

sounds like your right on top of things...
since you downloaded it at work...can it be connected to your thread by signature?
i got your number but you let me know when is a good time for you to recieve a call since you are at work now. i know someone who can get it up and going for you.. it should be on your signature...look at the bottom of my page...see, like mine.

I got it on there, although yours looks better ;-)

I will plug Dopey's numbers in there tomorrow. Woke up too late to do this testing this morning, but definitely plan on giving him a poke before his evening shot.

Thanks for all your support!! It means a lot to me, and sweet Dopey of course!

something is not right...it denied me access. i don't know much about setting these accounts up but hope someone does who's reading this.

oh no!!!! still no access.

3rd times the charm Lori?? ;-)

I re-set the savings as anyone on the web can view.

If that doesn't work, someone can call me around 4 PM PST and tell me what I'm not doing correctly!!!! :?

Do not hold the rice sock on the ear for too long at a time. 2-3 seconds then move it to
the other side, or give a warm-rice-sock massage on the neck and shoulders., then back
to the ear.

Remember, not too hot. You should be able to hold the rice sock on your own
cheek for 10 seconds with comfort.

Don't use the rice sock to back the ear when poking. When ear is warm, lay the rice sock aside
and use something like a folded piece of TP, tissue, or bit of cosmetic square behind the ear
when you poke. Then use this same bit of tissue to fold over the edge of the ear after the
blood is collected. Apply gentle pressure for a few seconds to stop bleeding and prevent bruising.

I agree - please don't up that dose so drastically just yet - can you post some numbers on your spreadsheet? I clicked on it and it's blank...
In the meantime, can you list all your numbers thus far in a post?

I (finally!) posted Dopey's numbers on his spreadsheet. I'm going to drop off his spreadsheet at the vets tomorrow, but in the meantime does anyone have feedback on how he's looking for this stage in his treatment?

Thanks!!

I'd suggest starting a new topic asking for dose advice, now that you have your spreadsheet. It will partially depend on your insulin so be sure to include what insulin you are using and what you are feeding. Then we can give you better advice.
