I am not considering going on one..
But I am wondering some theories...as I am strictly curious, and obviously NOT working hard while at work today..
Why do they have these "vet formulas" and why do some vets (the one i went to as well) still want to change diet to a DRY vet formula for a F/D cat... and I forsee the the vet will give me when he once realizes I am feeding FF...

Anyway, just wondering....

One of the reasons, Keri, is that most of the nutrition training is done by Purina. So, of course, they advocate their own foods, dry or not.

I can't remember how many hours of training they get in nutrition, but it is very few.

wow that is REALLY quite sad! Nutrition is key for humans why wouldn't it be key for our fuzzy family too.. I have a friend who used to feed orijen to her cats.. a canadian company http://www.orijen.ca/orijen/products/catkitten.aspx
and which i thought was a decent food... (my other two are on that BUT will be transitioning, and mowgli was..) and then her vet put her cats on Gastro (i think by hills) well her one cat, HOLY MAN ROLLY POLLY and FAR too quickly... i am trying to show her EVERYTHING i am learning here about going LOW CARB, and wets....Hopefully she will listen or I fear she will be possibly joining this forum soon too....

My vet wanted me to feed DM. At least it was wet. But I decided to feed Fancy Feast. I just told her it was a food he would eat and it was important to me that he eat lo carb. So now we just don't talk abut diet anymore.

Anyway, how can a vet argue with low bg levels and success?

Orijen is made by Champion, a local Alberta company that does great stuff, but only in the area of dry food...I asked once why they don't do canned but they don't have the facilities.

Vets get next to no education about nutrition, and what they do get is from Purina. They have to go outside the box so to speak to educate themselves on nutrition. And Hills has a vested interest in educating vets about their products.

Did you ever link up with Ed and Tine?
