I just read in a separate thread that some of you use syringes with increments marked in 1/2 units. The ones I've been using don't have that. I've just been eyeballing it. Can anyone recommend a good syringe with 1/2 unit increments?

Hi Susan, Welcome to LL to you and Buddy,

Yes, we all use syringes marked in half units. American Diabetes Wholesale carries most brands: Monoject and Terumo are the ones most people use. Click on the ADW rectangle (above) to peruse their selection. I suggest using 31 gauge syringes (the thinnest available) with 1/2-unit markings in the 3/10 cc size (for doses of 30 units or less, because the marks are further apart in that size). Walmart also has their own brand of syringes with half-unit markings. Depending on what state you live in, you may need your vet's prescription for your initial purchase of syringes from ADW, but for subsequent purchases, simply state in your order that your vet's prescription is "on file".

Best of luck,

Hello,

was American Diabetes Wholesale: item# SY8881609331PK3 Monoject Syringe 31g 3/10cc 100/bx Case of 3 1 $48.02 $48.02

I was getting my syringes with 1/2 unit markings from WalMart but found a lot of the needles were bent and the plunger wasn't flat when you measured the dose. I switched to the Monojet which I purchase from American Diabetes Wholesale (ADW). They cost a tiny bit more but so far I haven' had to discard any due to bent needles = less waste. The black top of the plunger is also more uniform. I also received them quickly from ADW.

I also used ADW after Hocks started asking for a prescription. (I live in NY.) I simply placed my order online with the request that they call my vet for a prescription. I don't know if they did that, but I got the syringes very quickly.

Thanks for all the responses. I'll try ADW. I too used to use Hocks, but think I'll switch now.

I've used these Monoject 3/10 cc 29 gauge 1/2 inch: http://www.americandiabeteswholesal...t-insulin-syringes_1289.htm?source=SiteSearch

They are also available in 30 guage 5/16 inch and 31 guage 5/16 inch.

I've also used these expensive BD UltraFine II 31 guage 5/16 inch ones: http://www.americandiabeteswholesal...e-insulin-syringes_6941.htm?source=SiteSearch

Be sure to use the AmericanDiabetesWholesale ad link that is at the top of the FDMB boards :thumbup That way FDMB gets a commission which goes towards board maintenace/web server costs. Don't see the link or it's not clickable? Here's the link: http://gan.doubleclick.net/gan_click?lid=41000000024900226&pubid=21000000000518432&lsrc=17

Walmart's Relion brand of insulin syringes have half unit markings and are pretty inexpensive. You can only buy them at a Walmart pharmacy.
