Does it matter if when you pull up the skin you don't inject exactly into the pocket? I think I'm getting the injections too far up on the bunched up skin. I know the vet techs always say shoot into the pocket. Does it make a difference in absorption? I know I get all of it in and there's never any wet fur.

I think that if you get it all in and your kitty doesn't complain then your technique is fine. Usually discussion about absorption focuses on location of injection site with some sources saying that the scruff has poorest absorption. However, many people use that area with no problems.

Hmmm- maybe that's why he flinched a little the other day. I was concerned about absorption but forgot that maybe he actually felt a pinch. He did give me a not very nice look.

I notice Bronx will flinch sometimes if I don't get into some loose skin. If skin is a little taught, he will flinch. I have better luck shooting in the flank.

I've been shooting on the side of chest right now. I will eventually have to rotate so the flank area looks good. Thanks.

I'm glad you posted this regarding shooting into the fat layer for better absorption. It makes sense. I think some of my previous shoots were into the skin rather than below into the fat layer.

My vet taught me to shoot into the scruff or side of chest, and i guess I never really thought about it after that. This makes it look like you can shoot pretty much anywhere along their body as long as it's into the fat layer. Is that correct?

From the diagram it looks like the side of the chest may be the best location but you are supposed to rotate areas. I can't keep track of each place I shoot unless I write it down and I'm not sure that's going to happen. I'm trying to keep track of so many other things right now. I'm new so it's a little overwhelming right now.

Hang in there. This is my second time at this dance, and I'm still learning tons! Step by step...

Ugh- having problems tonight with him eating around the time of injection. His specialist said that even if he doesn't eat I should give him half a dose anyway. Haven't been able to test him tonight, he's getting freaked and running from me. He can sense my frustration over wanting him to eat. Trying to stay patient!!
