question on amps/ plz comment :) any help appreciated

so mornings r so so hard. larry is just impossible. its not just me being so tired. he is so so squirmy and uncooperative. its now the only tme of day we have real problems. there must be other ppl who went thru this?
he will not be still. he shakes his ear at the sock, the lancet, everything. then, evn with his ear warmed up, the few times the needle hits, we rarely get blood. something is vry diff. abt mornings. maybe bc its cold out. idk.
he just so hyper/restless and HUNGRY. all he wants is his food. he waits all night for it, and he is ready!
maybe some new ppl comment? tell me a new suggestion? if he could eat first, we would get a LOT further i believe. as soon as he eats, thats why i am always able to get that next shot in evn less than an hr. he is good after eating! well most always.
so i need new ideas.
towel/burrito wont work on him. too long to type out. whew i am worn out. long post here. thanks for any new ideas!

Morning Pam. Sorry the mornings are so hard.

You want him to eat before you shoot since you are using N. But maybe you could give him a medium sized snack and then test. Within 10 minutes of the food, get a test (we generally think food doesn't influence the number until 20 minutes after eating.) Once you have the test, he can eat the rest of his breakfast and you can shoot. Any chance that might work?

morning, sue, ever faithful lady....ok, so how much can he have? half a can? or 1/4 can (friskies small size) that seems to satisfy him (1/2). back whn i was doing it my way...b4 u all told me diff.
treats r a nightmare. he has no interest in his usual chicken, or if he does, hes freaking out to get to it wherever i put it. if i use tuna, 3 times as bad. he is superCAT in the mornings. its like hes backwards for a cat. he sleeps at night too, like a person. usually awake most all day. anyway....
after 1 hr. he is 384. we got it.
any1 plz feel free, all day to weigh in. the key is to figure this out during the day, or evening when im at my best. i jst posted now bc i forget/calm down at night.
all suggestions welcome!

If half a can will calm him down, that should work. I am just thinking to keep some back so you can feed at or right after the shot also, to have more food in his tummy to cushion the drop. This +1 looks like he was in the high 300s - 400 at shot time, so your dose should be fine today.

As long as he is in these numbers, he would be fine. I just worry that some day his amps will be lower than usual and you wouldn't know and shoot more than he needs. If there is any way to get that amps, it would be the best plan.

yea, its possible, since nighttime he holds out on eating to wait on me. the rest of the day he is good. hes not evn really hungry at dinner anymore. doenst get excited abt it, or vry excited evn over treats anymore. i nvr thot i would see this happen! ever! hes just not vry hungry except in mornings. its good to see him bttr but so odd. he has always been overweight, and a hungry kitty.

confused^ what does that mean? ^ the only +1 we got was yesterday and it was technically abt 30 mins later. i wntd to see how the shot was working. he only came down 9.

is there a way to put half hrs on the SS? or does it matter?

Maybe try feeding Larry late at night, just before you head off to sleep? That might help him so he's not quite so hungry in the morning.

What Deb said sounds good to me. Or maybe freeze some food so it thaws overnight and he has to wait to eat it? I never tried that bit others have and it (hopefully) makes your cat eat later when the food thaws out.

i need some really simple things that work, and to get more simplified. atm things r pretty complicated, and i am still overwhelmed with everything. simplicity is key. simple, easy steps, and few of them :)

after 1 hr. he is 384. we got it.. I thought this was your +1 this am. Did you get this as a preshot this am?

Maybe we can set up a sliding scale for you: If you get X, dose X if you can monitor. Dose X if you can't monitor? Would that help?

that would be good yes! that way i dont have to depend on response or worry and it takes the pressure off u all :)

im not sure. i have to look at his SS, sue. i posted everything i have.

That's what I would do, feed him one last time right before bed leaving enough for him to nibble on. Maybe add a little water so it doesn't dry up. When I test I put him up on the counter, scratch his chin and scratch his ear all over. I keep talking to him, scratching, and getting him relaxed. I position a cotton ball behind his ear and prick a couple of times all the while scratching his chin. I "milk" his ear upward to squeeze the blood out and bam, I get the blood sample on the test strip. Dusty used to squirm so much but now he enjoys all the calm talking, the scratching, petting all over, and just all the extra attention.
