Question: How do you measure small doses accurately?

I've been reading through the PZI forum and some of the others even, and there are people talking about dosing at .25 and moving the dose from .4 to .5. How in the world to you get the dose that precise? With the syringes I was given they're marked ||||5...etc units. Are people using more precise syringes than they gave me, or are they flat out guessing between the 1/16" of the 0 and 1 marks?

If you do go to the U-100 syringes, please print out that conversion chart and tape it to your fridge. In the beginning you will need it to figure out the correct U-40 dose in a U-100 but even after all these years with Mishka I always pull up the dose and then double check it, always.

I was just curious because I couldn't imagine eyeballing a quarter dose on the syringes I have. Also, the 1u looks like minuscule compared to the 6u that the vet had me push on that first day.

It still gives me the willies thinking about what could have happened that day. nailbite_smile

FYI, the ReliOn 3/10 cc insulin syringes all now come with 1/2 unit markings.

Patrick, once you go back to that vet, which you should do even if you choose another vet, this particular vet.needs to be shown Sabian's ss and told that 6 units of Prozinc b.i.d. and not to bother with hometesting could have killed Sabian. Maybe talking with this vet will save another kitty if he is shown the info and updated on his thinking that 6 units is a low starting dose and hometesting is a lifesaver and Sabian doesn't hate you.

I will be doing that, Hope. I want to get a week's worth of testing in though, and maybe a video of her taking her test to show that it's not that big of a deal to her. She jumps up on the desk for me now and doesn't really groan much when I'm fiddling with her ears, so it's definitely getting easier.

The document links in the "Convert a Vet" thread do not work because access is not allowed by the owner of those google docs. I'd love to have those printed out for him to look through. He's a very proactive, learning type of vet, but I just don't think he's spent much time with an FD cat...or in my opinion, not enough to dx it correctly.

PS, don't miss the new pics I put of my kitties in my thread in the Community forum!

It may be your computer, not the Convert a vet thread? The one on this page worked for me this morning. Or was it the links in the thread?

It's not my computer, nor is it the links in this board. It's the links in the doc that thread is taken from.

The Convert a Vet thread references this document, but none of those links are working because I get the "that email account hasn't been granted permission to this document." error. It's a Google Docs share setting for that doc and must be changed by the author/owner of it. Unless someone has the whole thing lying around, then I could host it myself.
