My 10 yr old, formerly obese(23lbs. now 15lbs.) cat has been on insulin for around 4 yrs. She recently had an infection (abscess on her gums) and her levels had gone up in the 700's . She's been on canned food and vet upped her dose of Novolin N (2units) over the coarse of a few weeks & ended up with 4units 2x a day getting her down to 127. Then, 1 1/2 wks ago she ended up hypoglycemic & had a seizure
ER docs got her stable enough to discharge after 24 hrs with no issues. They started her on 1 unit of insulin when she was back up. She was 284 at her dinner time /8pm. /discharge sat. night. I followed up monday at the vets and her nadir was 284. stayed at 1 unit for the week and yesterday(Mon.) retested . She was down in the 230's. Now doing 2 units & will go back Monday to check again.
My main question is this- I do 8am./8pm, 2 units, 1/2 a can each time. She is a piggy (obviously) & starts begging for her food sooner. How much time before her shot can I feed her without messing anything up? Since we are readjusting her dosage I just don't want to mess anything up! And definitely don't want to ever have to go through her having a seizure again!! ~thanks!
