? Question about the Lantus Vial

When I take it out of the fridge, should I do anything with the vial before putting the insulin in the syringe? We had a vet mention that you should roll the vial around in your fingers each time before using it. However, I have read the opposite online that you don't want to disturb it.

No need to do that for Lantus, nor Levemir, which are solutions.
Rolling is necessary for mixtures such as ProZinc, PZI, Vetsulin/Caninsulin. Rolling re-suspends the insulin in the liquid.

My vet told me to roll the vial too. Some vets don't seem to realize you don't need to do that with Lantus. In case you haven't thought about it, it is a good idea to not keep the Lantus in the refrigerator door. It gets shaken around every time the door is opened if you do that. I keep mine on the shelf near the back to keep it closer to a consistent temperature.

Lantus is a solution -- it doesn't separate. Insulin like Humulin N, when it sits, separates and you need to roll the vial in order to get the liquid back into suspension. Because Lantus is already a solution, there's no need to shake, rattle, or roll! In fact, in the grand scheme of insulin, Lantus is relatively fragile so you don't want to agitate it. (Please let Wrigley know that the insulin is not something you want him to bat around the house -- it's not a hockey puck.)
