? Question about temporary dose schedules

I know at the end of this month we are going to be gone during the time we would normally do his PMPS and shot. We will actually probably be gone at least 3 hours before his normal shot time. Would this just be easier to do by just skipping that shot so we stay on schedule?

And how would you do minor schedule changes? Like if you have a day you need to test and shoot a couple hours early and you know ahead and would prefer to not skip? I know how to do the adjustments with Novolin, but Lantus doesn't work the same so I know it won't be the same.
 
First, here is a link to a post called Where Can I Find, that has pointers to lots of useful posts. Including one on Getting Back on Schedule. I had a monthly meeting that meant I had to leave the house 3/4 of an hour before shot time. I used to move Neko's schedule up over a few days before hand so I could make the meeting. Other times when it was a longer time period, I just took longer to move the schedule up, then back. Whether you skip or move the schedule depends on how flexible you are on the other days surrounding that day. Kitties will always get back on track if you have to skip.
 
Typically, you don't want to move the shot time by more than 15 minutes per shot or 30 minutes per day. Long time members that have a lot of data sometimes take more liberties with that (we did), but they only do it because they are very confident on how their kitty will react.

Unless the kitty has a history of ketones and/or DKA, skipping is often the best option when the difference between when you can shoot and your usual shot time is greater than an hour or so.

Since Zeke does get ketones showing if he tests too high, that mean would just be better to move his time? Or since the way he does it will be ok to skip? He never shows ketones for long (generally no more then about 12 hours) and usually he has had a few high numbers when he does. We would probably end up having to go from 8/8 to at least 4/4 for that day.

The problem with doing that is that you would have to adjust your shot time back 30 minutes (or 15/15) each day for a week before that date, then you would do the opposite to get back to your current schedule. Can you do that? (ex: if you shoot at 8/8, tomorrow you would shoot at 7:30/7:30 , or 7:45/7:30, then the next day 7:00/7:00, etc.)

One other alternative, which some people use, is the 18/18 schedule. You would shoot at 8:00 that morning, then at 2:00 am, then at 8:00 the next night, putting you back on schedule. It's not ideal, but the cat doesn't go as long without insulin.

That work better because we will be getting back pretty late that night so it would just be a matter of staying up a little later to do a shot. But I would still need to do a +2 after the shot though wouldn't I?
