Question about Syringes

Since my nearest Walmart is a detriment to any diabetic in the area because they don't keep tabs on inventory (I could get ReliOn test strips for in-store pickup but they were not available for purchase on the shelves of the same store) and now they don't have the ReliOn 30 guage syringes I am running short of, I am having to search for another source. I have looked locally for syringes with no success. The ADW has 31 guage syringes. What is the difference between 30 and 31 guage? Does one have a thicker needle than the other?

Keep in mind that some people find it hard to get enough blood with such a fine gauge needle. Newbies (like me) tend to do better with a larger gauge. I use a 28 and it works every single time. Just wanted to share my 2 cents. If you have trouble getting blood, try a larger gauge. But, if a 30 is working for you, high five to you and your kitty's ears!

Robincot is asking about syringes, not lancets

Thanks Larry, yes - I am talking about insulin syringes. But now I have more of a concern because I ordered more syringes from ADW but I came home and counted that I only have enough syringes to get me through Sunday. Is there a place where I can walk in a purchase syringes? Do places keep them hidden? Do I need a doctor's note to buy them? I don't know what I am going to do come Monday morning.

Can anybody offer suggestions?

I shouldnt tell you this but I use each syringe twice before chucking it out. Its not ideal because the needle gets blunt over time but two shots out of it is ok. Using them twice will keep you going a few days.

If you have to re-use, maybe wipe with some isopropyl alcohol after using to reduce possible contamination.

Good to know that in an emergency I can use a syringe twice if cleaned and refrigerated although I don't know how he would react to a cold needle. I will also go around to several other pharmacies today to try to get a supply. I am glad that I don't need any kind of prescription in VA. Thanks all. I am feeling very relieved.

Joyce - love the emoticons

Success in another Walmart - found syringes and test strips so no syringe reuse (only had to do it once - thank goodness). Thanks all.
