Just wanted to see if someone can check out my spreadsheet.

Annie's numbers yesterday, and then today, have dropped significantly. My question is... so Lantus is supposed to rise slightly at the +1, and +2 should be about the same as preshot number, then lower, lower, etc. What would make annies numbers just drop like that? I'm just trying to understand a bit more thats all.

Sunday night we took her to the vet, she had blood in her urine. here is my post about that viewtopic.php?f=28&t=71886

She was put on Clavomox one pill 2x day. So that started monday night. She seems alot better now. she's not peeing all over the place or anything.

I don't know if that factors in with her numbers. Maybe her Pancreatitis has subsided? She's still on the steroids of 0.25mg once a day in the morning.

i'm expecting a bounce soon though like she usually does when she touches blue.

What cat ever does what is expected of them?  Seriously, when cats start to get over an illness or pain BGs come down. That UTI was probably there for a while and finally she couldn't hide her distress anymore. Now that you are getting it under control you are seeing the results in her numbers. It is important to get extra checks in now, as the BG can change a lot! Keep posting! Try to get a +11 test so you have a little breathing room if the numbers keep coming down and you want advice before the next shot.

When you look at what is ostensibly an "ideal" curve, you need to keep in mind that every cat is different and many deviate from the ideal. For example, not every cat has a nadir at +6. (My cat's nadir is typically at around +4.) While numbers at +1 often reflect a food spike and the +2 is close to the pre-shot, these are markers to tell you whether you may have a particularly active cycle.

Medical conditions, like pancreatitis or a UTI, also can have a marked effect on numbers. Especially conditions like a UTI, or any infection for that matter, will raise BG. As the antibiotics kick in, numbers can drop. It looks to me like Annie's UTI is clearing up as the antibiotics are doing their job.

Also, your spreadsheet notes that you took in a urine sample for culture after you started the Clavamox. You can't get a reliable culture after the antibiotics have been started. You also need a sterile sample for a culture and sensitivity (i.e., the vet needs to insert a needle into the bladder for the sample. The procedure is called a cystocentesis.)

yes, i realize that the culture may have been skewed from starting the antibiotics. I talked to the vet about it today. she has a check up on monday.

I know some things could be affecting her numbers, hence why i can't figure out her SS at all. I can't figure out what her curve is like because her numbers are so all over the place, and then today, she just dropped to the blues. I can't even figure out what her peak time is. I think it's between 4-6 hours during the day, but then at night it's different. Unless i'm missing something>? And then she shoots back up just in time for her pmps. Is the Lantus wearing off before 12 hours?? but she HAS had lower pmps, i just don't get it!

And you might not ever get it. Gracie was on lantus a year and I could never figure out her nadir. She also did the same as Annie....she'd drop and fire back up again.

I don't know for certain if this is what Annie is doing but some cats are slow responders and take longer to settle into a dose. Perhaps Annie is one. While Gracie can get started ok on a dosecrease, she really starts cranking
out the nice numbers about cycle 10 or 11. Annie may be a slow responder. She may be clearing an infection....it's almost impossible to know. So I want to encourage you to not get too wrapped up in it or believe me, you
will drive yourself crazy asking "why". We'll never know for certain why their little bodies do what they do.

I think you've held onto this dose a little too long and I would advocate taking her up .25u. She cleared a bounce today but she didn't get into normal numbers so I think you have a little room to take her up but you'll need to be
sure and monitor her.

You aren't asking any questions that most new members don't ask....I still look at Gracie's SS some days and scratch my head but I try to remember it's not in my control; that even if I could figure it out, she'd change (and they do...they can change nadir on a daily basis); and not to get too attached to a dose :-D

Good questions!!!
