Question about SLGS

Hi, if anyone can help me to understand this better.
So the protocol is u hold dose for 7 days and then do the curve. In that 7 days, do I need to test often or just grab 1 or 2 a day besides the amps and pmps? Will my cat suddenly go Low ? Every time I go out I’m so worried if he goes low and no one is there to help him.
If I do enough tests during the 7 days, do I still need to do the curve on the last day?
And if anyone can look at my SS and tell me where’s the nadir?

You can test as often as you like on either protocol. A lot of people choose SLGS because they're not home to test as often - because on TR you can increase more often. If you're concerned about his numbers at any time, please test.

Enough testing can be considered a 'curve' - so you don't have to have an 'official' curve day - I used to test more than enough when we were on SLGS - in the early days - and had enough tests to fit the 'curve' criteria without waiting until a particular day.

It looks like Jebat nadirs around 3 to 5+ but there are exceptions to that. If you look at Luci's SS I list her nadirs on the far right hand side - and still I do not know when her nadir is from one cycle to the next...

Oh I thot for lantus the nadir is not so early in the cycle. Jebat pmps shot has been lower than his +7 before so I’m not sure when is the nadir. U test very often! I suppose if he’s in the blue and I don’t chge the dosage then it’s unlikely he will dip? I’m happy if he’s surfing blue all the time. It’s very stressful when they dip and bounce.

Ah yes... well staying in the blues may be less stressful for the caregiver - but it's like your doctor saying to you - I'll only give you enough medicine to make you feel a little better, but not enough to cure you of your problem. Many cats go into remission - but the only way to do it is to encourage them with enough insulin into those green numbers - and since the span between 50 - 100 isn't all that large it's a bit like walking a tightrope. You want them to be below 100, but not below 50...yep, it's a dance alright - and sometimes requires frequent testing to get to know how your cat responds to insulin and to food. I learned early on that Luci likes to dive soon after getting her insulin shot - I have to be very watchful of her to prevent her from going too low - because when she goes too low, she loses out on the benefit of a good dose - so I try to keep her steady for as long as I can.

If I have to lower her dose too soon, due to a significant drop, then she loses out on what may have been a very therapeutic dosage for her - then we go back up and then she has to wait until I'm sure it's a failed reduction OR 6 cycles passes to increase her dose...

Jebat was in remission for 2.5 years. He was on vetsulin before. I was quite good at dosing vetsulin with guidance of course. Lantus is totally new and it’s like starting over again.
U think his nadir is +3 - 5 ? Then I’ll do more tests around this time. Do look at his SS from time to time and advise me what to do. I sure need all the help I can get.
