Question about needles

Hi everyone. I use the longer 12.7 mm/ 1/2 inch 29 gauge BD needle syringes. Sometimes I notice that some needles seem a little irregular along the length of the needle and it looks like there is a tiny section of the needle that is thicker or looks a bit white if you know what I mean. Or maybe this might be how the light reflects off the needle. I have run my finger along the needle and the irregularity feels smooth. Of course after touching the needle I don't use the syringe and needle as it is no longer sterile. I have usually discarded these syringes and needles because I wasn't sure if the irregularity might cause a painful injection. I decided last night to use one of these syringes with the slight irregularity on the needle to withdraw insulin and it seemed as if the irregularity smoothed out a little when I withdrew the needle from insulin cartridge. I thought maybe also that it might be the way the light reflects off the needle that made it seem like there was an irregularity but maybe there wasn't. But after doing some research online last night I found that BD needles have a silicone coating to make insertion of the needle under the skin easier and less painful and I thought that maybe this irregularity which feels smooth might be silicone. I will check to see if the 31 gauge shorter BD needles have similar irregularities along the length of the needle. I wonder if anyone else has noticed the same issue. I used the needle and syringe last night as I thought maybe it was just the way the light was reflecting off the needle and maybe I was worrying about nothing but then later I wondered if maybe I shouldn't have used it. Thank you for any thoughts on this issue.

I've got crap for vision and haven't noticed that. I use 30 gauge short needles because they are less likely to bend and then stab me when I use them. Folks have noticed that sometimes the syringe markings are not always lined up the same on the syringes.

Thank you BJM. I have also noticed that the syringe markings can vary between syringes. I think 30 gauge needles might be best as they were the needles I first used but then I could only find either 31 gauge or 29 gauge and the 31 gauge seemed to bend quite easily so I changed to the 29 gauge.

I recently changed to the 30 gauge short needles. The other night the way the light hit the needle I thought I got a syringe with no needle . I moved the syringe differently in the light and only then could I see the needle. Maybe you are correct it is just the light.
