Hello,
I have a question about a meter. I live in Turkey and strips are really expensive here. I am using Bayer counter TS and Roche Accu chek Active. These meters are using the most expensive trips here. Today I made a research in internet an found a brand "on call" It's written that it is an American Brand. Has anybody heard of this brand? Do you think I should rely on this meter? the strips are really cheap, it's the half price of my meters :?

Hi Tifil and Isil,

Test strips are generally the most expensive part of dancing with a sugar cat. Have you tried e-bay or craig's list? Sometimes you can get test strip deals at either place.

I use a Maxima meter. I've never heard of "On Call". But, in the past, when switching meters, have tested Nikki with both. That way, I have a side-by-side comparison so know how to deal with both the meter transition and the different readings -- if any or significant. Perhaps you could order the "On Call" meter and test it against your other two meters. Would that work for you?

Big hugs for you home testing in Turkey from we home testing in the US!

Good morning. I suspect that the meter may be what we call a store brand. Here in the US, all glucose meters must meet specific requirements for the accuracy of their readings. This include all brands including store brands. I think that I found the meter you are talking about online http://sites.google.com/site/sonraymktg/Sonray_home/on-call-plus-blood-glucose-meter. However it does not look like it is made in the US. You may want to get one and compare it's accuracy against your current meter. In the US, the requirement is that it must read + 20 of the actual glucose reading.

Hello,
Thank you for your quick respond :)

I actually tought of buying the strips from ebay but our governement is taking lots and lots of taxes when we buy something overseas.
But today I will buy this meter and I will try on myself and compair it with my meters :)
Thank you

Hi Tifil,

I see your posts over on Lantus and happy to see your kitty is doing well.

I was wondering -- what do diabetic people use in Turkey? Have you tried a local brand? I would think that the science behind the technology is similar.

I'm sorry. I should have thought about international e-bay/tax issues... Sigh...

I think it's great you're going to buy this meter, test it on yourself, and compare it with your other meters. You're brilliant!

Please keep us posted as we'll be looking for you.

Love and big hugs from the US!

Hi dear Tifil and Isil,

I'm so glad to hear the accuracy of Tifil's new meter is fine. The fact that the strips are going to be cheap? BONUS!

It is interesting dancing with a sugar cat, isn't it? They are so incredibly special...

My best to you and Tifil.

Love and continuing big hugs from the United States to you both in Turkey!
