A friend of mine adopted two kittens that have "colds". The vet told her that it is contagious but only to kittens and gave them a needle that would "cure" it. The question is what would this be and is it anything to worry about?

Oh dear...I'm not sure but much smarter minds than mine may have a clue. This will bump your thread up for more eyes...might be kinda slow today...

I would want to know about this 'cure'; ask the vet what was the shot.
It is important to know what was given, what to expect, and what possible bad reactions could happen, then what to do about them.

What were the symptoms? Ask if the vet's talking about an upper respiratory issue?

All sorts of info online about cat 'colds' and how to treat them; maybe diff for kittens than cats?

They seem to have stuffy noses and slight wheezing. It goes away for a while and then comes back.

There are some viruses which lie dormant until a cat is stressed - feline herpes virus is one of them.

You friend might try adding some powdered lysine to their food (available online from our shopping partner Amazon). NOW brands is one I've used.
