Question about glucose in urine

I measured kitty's urine glucose and it was really high 300 mg/dl
so I took his blood glucose and it was 170

not sure why his urine level is so high
any ideas?

(haven't started insulin yet because he just started wet can food)
 
Urine testing and blood testing don't correspond. Blood testing measures the amount of glucose in the blood at that moment, where urine testing measures glucose after it has spilled into the urine from previously high blood glucose. Urine testing also cannot measure low blood sugar, which is why we recommend blood testing instead.
 
That is correct ... unless the glucose control is not yet optimized and the cat is going high at part of the cycle to spill it.
