I read somewhere that feeding a kitty (either a civvie or diabetic) beef can cause GI issues in kitty. I switched Blackie to the Beef & Liver flavor before reading this, and switched her back to the Turkey & Giblet flavor. The reason for the switch from the T&G to the B&L was because of the carb factor (T&G = 3%, B&L = 2%).

Has anyone ever heard of, or have had any (GI or other) problems feeding their diabetic kitty this flavor before?

I'm trying to lower the PS #s down, and am not having much luck with the T&G, especially on the new feeding regime (although I think it'll probably take more time than I'm giving, but I'm not sure).

I appreciate any and all answers and/or help. Thank you in advance.

Bandit LOVES beef, and his favorite FF flavors are Tender Beef Feast, and Beef & Chicken (fyi, FF Beef & Chicken is the only FF classic that doesn't contain liver). I've switched to EVO 95 % but Beef is in his rotation for EVO as well. Never had any problems with it. I also used to feed Gabby PetGuard Beef & Chicken, and eventually Merrick's Cowboy Cookout and Surf-n-Turf, and no GI issues there, either.

Although, unless your cat is super, super carb sensitive, I don't think going from 3 to 2% carbs will really make a difference. One thing I have noticed can make a difference in the Pre-shot is if the cat is getting a little more food than he needs. I was Feeding Bandit 8.5 oz of food a day, and then we went down to 7.5oz because he needed to lose a little weight, and his PS dropped about 20 points. Now that we're on the EVO (higher in calories) I noticed his BG is going up again by about 10-20 points, and he's gained a little weight, so I'm dropping his food down to 7oz, or possibly 6.5oz a day.

Oscar is one of the kitties that beef makes his numbers raise. He has had a small piece of pure steak before (no seasoning) and he skyrocketed 200 points. Tender Beef FF did the same thing to him, and I only found that out once he started getting better regulated. When we switched to a flat of that flavor, his numbers were always higher.
