I was wondering if the old meters are useful. I clean out houses and I usually toss any medical supplies people have. Since most people are old. Most are diabetic. Are any of the supplies useful to anyone here. The last house I did I kept the diabetic meter. Not sure how old it is. The lady said she thinks they just got it a year or two ago. Anyway I have it here some where. Are the human needles any good for cats etc. Suzie wasn't diabetic long enough from me to do much research etc. . . anyway let me know what you all think. When I come by stuff like that should I put it aside or just toss it. . . ?

Any Human blood glucose meter can be used for cats. The lancets Human diabetics use can also be used for cats.

If the meters aren't too old and test strips are still available at stores, Lori can probably use them for the newbie kits. For really old meters and test strips that are no longer being sold or made, I would just throw those away. You can go to the meter brand web sites to see if the meters you have are still being made or not.

I get stuff from a charity organization in Yuma, AZ that does the same thing
(clean out houses).

They save all the diabetic testing stuff for me. I just send it all to
Lori in a big box a couple of times per winter. I let her sort it out.

You never know if she is looking for a manual for an old meter, or what.

Try to get everything you can. If you come across a meter, save until you
go through the entire house...you might find the instruction booklet to
go with it.

Check the refrigerator for useful insulin (keep refrigerated until you can ship it).

Some older meters like the OneTouch SureStep require too much blood to be useful for cats. You want meters/strips that sip the blood. The SureStep strips are like plodder paper.

I was going to say pretty much what Karen said as she sent stuff like that to me when I was running the newbie kit show and it was very helpful indeed.

Okay will do. I will just toss whatever I find in a box and save it until there is enough to send.

ummmm, i have recieved some antique meters and some meters that don't work, and some i don't recognize as being in stock anymore.
i have a mental disorder known as 'clutter phobia' meaning i freak out when there is clutter.
please send meters that are current, working and above all else send unexpired strips please.
i hate for folks to waste their postage on stuff i am just going to throw away.
right now i have many meters but not many strips.
if anyone wants to send me strips please do.
oh,,,,i have 50 strips for a reliOn meter and no reliOn meter...please send a reliOn meter as that is most popular.

thank you dear ones who send.
i am not ungrateful, just don't want anyone paying postage for what may end up in the trash is all.
