The ASPCA just donated 5 pound of dry food to me since they knew I can't afford groceries for myself or Espresso because of overdrafting trying to pay bills this month. I just picked it up but after seeing the ingredients, am very leary of giving it to Espresso because I know wheat, corn and rice has high carbs. They said it's what they feed their diabetic cats but I think they may not know the difference in carbs???. They didn't know how many carbs this has. It says it expired May 2013 and the brand name is Royal Canin Veterinary Diet RENAL LP MODIFIED-C Feline. I think this is probably high carb since it's dry and because of what I read on the ingredient list. I haven't fed him anything but Friskies low carb classics since his diagnoses. Anyone know anything about this food and feedback, please?

i couldnt find that exact one but both the renals i found were way too high.. sounds like you might need to educate the ASPCA...

Royal Canin Veterinary Diet RENAL MODIFIED- 34%
Royal Canin Veterinary Diet RENAL LP 21-35%

Thank You. I just found a phone number for the company and called. They said that food isn't recommended for ANY cat that doesn't have Renal disease. It's not a complete diet and is way too high for any cat with diabetes (108 grams of carbs = 40% carbs).

I wrote the information on the front of the bag and will be returning it tomorrow so they know.

Maybe google a few places and see if you can find friskies coupons or friskies cheap. I do that and stock up when I can..

He's been eating fancy feist. Which Friskies is low in carbs? I know that grains raise blood sugar. Thank You.

Any starchy 'vegetables' (potatoes, peas, beans, carrots, rutabaga, beets, etc.) and fruits may do this, it isn't just grains! If its vegetarian, it isn't likely necessary and they've put it in because humans like it and think it is good for them, so it must be OK for the cat .... NOT.

Thank You. I returned the dry cat food to the ASPCA with a note on it that it's ONLY for cats with renal failure and never for diabete kitties.
Thank You for the cat food info.
