Is a prescription needed or how do you get an inhaler for an asthmatic kitty? (diagnosed 18 months ago when it was mild -- now becoming severe and needs the inhaler)

Thanks in advance...

You need a script from the vet for the Flovent and I ordered my inhaler for the AeroKat. The vet gave me a new inhaler called Vortex, which I love their soft masks, but I like the AeroKat inhaler because I can see the little breathing flap working. I also buy the Flovent at Costco.......$62 cheaper than CVS. Stuff is expensive. I use the Vortex mask on the AeroKat inhaler for Hope.

The inhaler itself you can buy without a prescription. It's the Aerokat, http://www.trudellmed.com/animal-health/aerokat Click on the Buy Now button to purchase one. It's $55.

The Flovent is prescription only. You can but it at the Human pharmacy. Or your vet may sell it. I always bought it from the pharmacy at the vet hospital because it was cheaper than what the Human pharmacy sold it for even with the use of a free prescription drug card (free prescription drug cards http://www.felinediabetes.com/phorum5/r ... 84,1946184) I think it was something like $20 less at the vet.

The 220 strength flovent (which is what you should start on if it is getting severe) is usually around the $200 mark at many local pharmacies.

What probably 90% of us on the Yahoo group Feline Asthma Relief do is buy it through 4 Corners Pharmacy outside the US. I have done it for a year now, and the product is great. It is the European name - Flixotide, but still made by Glaxo Smith Kline. Roughly $50 for one 220 strength inhaler and they give you a discount the more you buy. Like 3 inhalers work out to around $43 a canister plus you get $5 off for orders over $100 I think. Takes about 2 weeks to ship in and no script needed.
