Qestion about novo prednisone

My non diabetic kitty kody got a scratch on his nose about a month ago. I took him to the vet and he gave me theraderm ointment. After using it for a week the scratch seems to come back because it itches him and he scratches it. We went back today and now he's given me a Rx for zeniquin and prednisone. I'm a little concerned about what I've read about prednisone and it's side effects. It's 5mg twice a day. Should I be worried or is it OK to use?

My civie Onyx was on pred for about a year for food allergies and never had a problem with it, luckily once we changed everyone over to canned food his allergies also disappeared and he has been pred free now for almost a year except for a short course again after he disappeared for 10 months and when he finally came home was in an allergy flare up again (Probably from eating dry food while missing). I did however test him fairly often to be able to catch it quick if he started developing diabetes.
