Good morning -

This is Hershey's 3rd day on ProZinc, with shots scheduled at 2:30. AMPS was 190, so we waited :20 and tested again. 260, so we waited :10 to double-check and got 239. Not knowing what else to do, we waited :15 and got 254. I figured with the 3 numbers above 200 we were safe to 'throw out' the 190, feed and give 1 unit. (That made the 2:30 shot a 3:20am shot.) What would've given us such different numbers in so short a period of time? And, is there something else we should've done?

Also, I'm still trying to figure out testing for ketones. What's the best way?

Thanks!

Libby (and Hershey, too!)

Meter variance...+/-20%.
all those numbers are within that range, and if you had to pick one he was probably around 230?
And rising since the previous dose would have been used up.
Good call on the dose.
I used a meter to check ketones in the blood so I can't help much on catching on the sticks

Great handling of the AMPS! :RAHCAT

Some of the suggestions I've seen on testing ketones (or rather catching urine to test for ketones):

A spoon or ladle under kitty while kitty goes (if you can get close enough - some kitties demand their privacy  )
Put aquarium gravel in box (won't absorb the urine)
Place plastic in box to catch urine pools (any kind of clean plastic - bags, saran wrap, whatever)

If you have more than one cat, like me, and they both demand privacy (won't enter the litter box if I'm watching), it can be tough.

I've had similar thing happen before if I don't get enough blood into the meter. Every time my meter does a weird random lower number its been because not enough blood in it. Sometimes the strips don't suck up as fast and i hold it on the blood a little longer then the beep to make sure it fills up.
