I've been feeding Buddy raw since diagnosis 3 years ago, but my friend's vet recently said that bacteria is common in this raw food.
Anybody know if this is true? it could make sense but i never heard this before.

Bacteria exist ubiquitously in the world, but the dose makes the poison. Most physiologies have some form of mechanism to stave off minor exposures. High level or unfamiliar pathogen exposures are more likely to cause disease.

Let me rattle your cage further:

Improper handling of raw meat - ANY raw neat - may result in high bacteria exosures.
How many recalls have they had?
Do you wear gloves when handling it and/or clean counters, etc with bleach product and wash your hands in warm water using antibacterial soap?
Do you leave it sitting out longer than the instructions recommend?
Do feline diabetics have a more compromised immune function than non-diabetic cats?

vs
Do wild carmivores come back to the same carcass repeatedly even a day or so after the kill?

vs

Any raw food can contain bacteria, especially if it was not handled with safe practices.

From the NV raw FAQs:

What are the risks of bacteria or pathogen contamination to pets when feeding Insitnct Raw Frozen Diets?
Your pet was biologically designed to eat raw food – it’s the diet that he or she will thrive on. Dogs and cats have unique physiochemical adaptations that reduce the chance of developing food-borne bacterial disease.

That said, Nature's Variety takes extra care to ensure that our Instinct Raw Frozen Diets are free of pathogenic bacteria. We utilize a state-of-the-art manufacturing process called High Pressure Processing (HPP). In essence, HPP uses water pressure to kill harmful bacteria. In addition to this safety step, our manufacturing facility utilizes many other quality and safety protocols to ensure that our foods are nothing short of superior – from farm to bowl. We even enforce a strict "test and hold" protocol to ensure that all Raw Diets leaving our facilities are free of harmful bacteria like Salmonella and E Coli.Click here to learn more about HPP and our food safety protocols.

Keep in mind that some vets are not supportive of raw feeding and will say anything to discourage a client from feeding it.
