Hi there, just started Junior on PZI on 2/10/12. he's been n Purina DM, started at 1 unit for first week then upped to 1.75 the past week. Numbers all over the place. Changed his diet this morning to 9 Lives super supper. Shots are at 7:15-30 am/pm. His lowest number since we started was today, 72 @ 4:30 p.m.. He usually hits the low around 1 :30 pm which is never below 114. Pre shot # was 183 and I was afraid to give him a shot. Just tested again, 40 minutes after his dinner and its 335. Should I give him 1 unit?????? It's now 45 minutes past normal shot time

Hi Laura,

Glad you came over. I post on Health and here on PZI.

Yes, I would go down to one unit. Now that you are feeding wet low carb, his insulin needs most likely will go down. Our kitty went down 100 points overnight when we switched from dry to wet. If you start back at one unit, you can keep track of how it is working and can increase as the numbers guide you, if necessary.

Thank you, Sue. Just got it in him. It was probably closer to .75. Im still trying to get the hang of drawing the shot. The prescription diet is canned. I'm going to test him in another hour.

Now that he's 45 minutes off track with the shots, should I start with 15 minute earlier intervals to get him back to the regular time?

Welcome Laura!

You'll find all kinds of great wisdom here - from those with lots of experience, to some of us relative newcomers. I encourage you to read through several of the threads to see what we're about. And take a look at some of our spreadsheets - it's interesting to see the varying numbers and patterns we all experience - supports the concept of ECID - every cat is different. When you have a question, post it - usually there's someone on at all hours of the day/night - and you might be surprised at the insight!

We look forward to seeing you around the board!

One of the nicest things about ProZinc is that the schedule is more adaptable than some of the other insulins. If you can get some numbers tonight - maybe a before bed shot, even setting an alarm at around +6 - then we can see how his cycle went and where he is in the am. If he is rising and in numbers above 200, shooting early shouldn't be a problem.

Come on in the morning with your number and the Breakfast Club will help you out. Be sure to mention today's cycle and shooting late.

Hmm. That didn't work. I would go back to your original (with the cc in the title) and choose share again - over to the right. Pick Share with anyone with the link. Then go over to the left and under file, choose Publish to the web. Use that url in your signature.

If it still doesn't work, send me a pm.

Good morning, 134 before breakfast. Thinking if its 300+ to give the shot, (maybe .5 unit if 250?) otherwise i'm skipping?

The dose amount decision needs to be made before feeding, when the BG has not been influenced by eating. You can shoot after feeding but you have to detrmine how much by the test just before he eats. There is only maybe a 30 minute window once he eats until the numbers start showing a boost from the food. If you had a 145 just before breakfast, I would skip.
