Okay guys. Now I'm getting a little discouraged. Thought my Brad was going to continue to go downward, but was at 377 this morning.

Here's the scoop.

Last night pre shot - 160 - No shoot
One hour later - 159 - No shoot
15 minutes after that - 161 - No shoot
One half hour after that - 177 - Shot of skinny .25 unit and fed wet food overnight.

Now, this morning,back up to 377. This kitty is driving mommy insane!

Dosing help? I'm thinking .75?

Edited to add: Ahhh! I just noticed no one else is on the forum. Well, I just went ahead and gave .75. Good choice? Well, we'll soon find out :smile:

Anyone have any idea as to why he keeps jumping around so much? It seems it changes daily.
 
Hey Mandy--don't pay any attention to the list below showing who is on the forum. I have noticed that before also, but some of the people's names never show up. I am not sure if they moderate the board or are alerted of postings by email. But, I am just saying--sometimes the names don't show up--so in the future give the post a little time!

The higher number this am is most likely the chicken#%*¥ shot we decided on last night. The .25 wouldn't have been likely to impact his numbers much, we just wanted to be sure he didn't go too low overnight.

I think your .75 is okay. The objective is to find a dose that allows you to shoot am and pm. We need a dose that will keep that pmps high enough to shoot. Paws crossed that it works. If possible, get at least a nadir today. If pm is still low, we might be a teeny bit more aggressive than last night. Then we might look at .5 again or eyeballing a .3 tomorrow morning.

The process is tricky, especially when you are just getting used to this whole thing and immediately have to start finessing small doses. The good news is that you are needing to finess small doses. :mrgreen: You need to consider that am pre shot dose, but in light of whether the insulin is lasting "too long" into the pm number. The am pre shot number is also influenced by food overnight, the small amount of insulin given last night.

Tonight if you get a low ps, we might be a little braver with the amount - just by a hair
 
It is all about data gathering Mandy. We will see what the .75 does in terms of the pmps. If it too low to shot again tonight, maybe less tomorrow. If not, good call. This is so not an exact science. Either way, not a problem. He is in good safe numbers and that is the important part.
 
I can understand how you feel. When I changed Max's diet and started home testing, Max's dose kept changing up and down over about week. I found it very stressful as a newbie trying to figure out what I was doing and then the next day things would change. It also put a wrench in my work schedule, cause I would get off in the timing of the shots. You're doing good and can be happy cause Bradley is in good #'s most of the time. The good #'s can sometimes be hard to get in the beginning. On why the dose seems to be changing, Bradley is newly diagnosed and I think there can be a period as the body adjusts to insulin and better numbers. You also changed Bradley's diet, which in some cats can lower the amount of insulin needed, and that can take maybe up to a week to settle. Also, in some cats, with the change in diet and insulin helping get them into good #'s, the pancreas can start to heal and sputter back. Keep gathering data and just take it a day at time. It does get easier, even though it may be hard to believe now.
 
BTW, you are right, Kim. Several long time people hide their names so it never shows up that they are on the board unless they post. Lori and I both hide our names. Personal preference.....
