We recently switched Fedya to a Purina DM from Fancy Feast Medleys as soon as he was diagnosed but I'm wondering how good is it really? He absolutely hates eating pate and loves gravy so we give him Purina DM gravy but he seems to be sleeping a lot more than usual. After he eats he knocks out for around 3-4 hours and I was thinking maybe the carb count in it is actually pretty high. Are there any suggestions or advice to what I could feed him or how good Purina Dm is?

Check out the carb content of the Purina DM gravy on this food chart.

There are other choices if he won’t eat pate.
Weruva brand has low carb choices which have juices/ gravies in the food and are still
Low carb. Check out their website. They will tell you the carb content on the website.
I notice you are not testing before giving the insulin very often. We strongly recommend you always test before every shot to see it is safe to give the insulin.

If you have been giving a higher carb food and swap over to a lower carb food, make sure you are testing the BGLevels frequently because a lower carb food can drop the BG levels significantly.
Well done setting up the SS and testing the BGLevels. Fedya is responding nicely to the insulin.

Ah, thank you for the advice! When we found out he was diagnosed the vet recommended Purina DM to us and we immediately switched, but looking at the chart we are certainly rethinking his food options. Once we do switch to something else for him, we'll be sure to track his BG levels extra carefully. Again thank you so much for the help.

You are very welcome.
There is no need to feed prescription foods. Apart from being more expensive, they are no better than many other canned foods. I’m fact many canned foods are better.
Ask lots of questions we are happy to help.
You might like to start posting over on the Lantus page where you can get lots of help and support. But if you’d like to stay on this page that’s ok too.

You may want to try adding a little water to the regular pate. Jerry was a dry addict and only liked wet food that had gravy. When I switched to classic pates I added a little water and he was okay with it. Just a thought.:)

Yes we have decided that Tiki cat would be best for him since he really likes broths too :) I was also wondering about supplements. We've been giving him a little bit or taurine and l-arganine with every meal but should I give him supplements at all? If so, then what supplements should I use that are safe for him?
