? Pulmonary edema. Acute abdominal pain, bloating, exacerbation of pancreatitis

Pimobendan (Vetmedin) literally saved my cat’s life. It was like night and day … and no more pleural effusions for years (until the end.) It was one of the medications which gave us two more good years with Ginger.
He was diagnosed with stage 2 hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and suspected pulmonary embolism.
With hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, heart medications such as beta-blockers or ACE inhibitors should be prescribed with caution, as blood pressure may drop and there will be insufficient blood supply to the coronary arteries of the heart. That's what the cardiologist told me today.
Today, 2 medications were prescribed to prevent thromboembolism.
Last night, an X-ray was taken, the swelling worsened. In the morning after the manipulations, the oxygen level was 47, he felt very bad and I was told that I should come and say goodbye. I was devastated, simply destroyed by this news. Previously, they wouldn't let me into his intensive care unit because of their rules, visits are only allowed in a special room, but there are no oxygen boxes there. Today, I went to see him and he was barely alive. But after a few minutes he started to reach for me, I opened the box a little and stroked him, he was very happy. I spent 4 hours with him, he ate, licked himself from head to toe to look good in front of his beloved woman:)
The nurse recorded a video of his reaction to me for the doctor and I was allowed to visit him in the intensive care unit 4 hours a day to improve his mood.
Today we managed to avoid euthanasia and for now that is enough for me. I hope his night goes well and tomorrow we will meet my sweet boy again.
Postscript:
He is also receiving diuretics, oxygen and sedatives to treat pulmonary edema. At the moment, in his condition, this is all that can be done.

Alisia, I am praying he will pull through. Sending many prayers for your sweet boy, who clearly loves you so much πŸ™ πŸ™ πŸ™ πŸ™ πŸ™ β€οΈβ€πŸ©Ήβ€οΈβ€πŸ©Ήβ€οΈβ€πŸ©Ήβ€οΈβ€πŸ©Ή

Oh my. Thank God they let you in to see him and spend so much time with him. I am crying as I write this. I will pray for him again.

I do know that Pimobendan that we have been talking about is very beneficial for hypertrophic cardiomyopathy in cats, where the heart is not able to pump as efficiently due to thickening of the left ventricle.

Pimobendan belongs to a class of heart medications known as inodilators, which help the heart pump more efficiently by increasing the strength of heart contractions and dilating blood vessels. It’s not an Ace Inhibitor or a Beta Blocker.

Please ask about the Pimobendan/Vetmedin.
Yes, I will definitely ask about Pimobendan. Thank you for that.

I left him the T-shirt I sleep in, it smells like me and I hope it will comfort him a little when I'm not around.
Thank you for our prayers, it means a lot to both of us. My heart is breaking. I can't and don't want to euthanize him because he's still fighting and I want to give him this chance. He eats with a big appetite and was really happy to see me. He has a little light in his eyes again. The clinic staff came to see how he's changed under my care. But seeing him suffer and not being able to take them away is unbearable for me.
The doctor said the next 2 days will be crucial

Please ask about the Pimobendan/Vetmedin.
I just called the cardiologist, he said that Pimobendan Asik is categorically not allowed. It is used for stages 3-4 of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. At stage 2, he still has a certain resource of the heart ventricle, and this drug will increase contractility and only make it worse. This is what I was able to understand from his words. He sounded quite convincing, actually.

Honestly, within a few days my cat was doing soooo much better. Our cardiologist also stopped the ACE inhibitor and calcium channel blocker for my cat Ginger. But she definitely recommended continuing the Pimobendan for Ginger’s hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.

I strongly insisted on cardiac medications, but two doctors insisted that in this situation, with his indicators and test results, it would kill him. And I cannot take him to another clinic, since he is not viable outside the oxygen box.

Oh, I just caught up on this, and it's heartbreaking. Alisia, I am so sorry for everything you and your sweet Asik are going through. It's more than I can imagine, although I have had a taste of my beloved cat being in the ER and the helplessness involved. He clearly loves you so much, and you are fighting so hard for him. ❀️ I have no experience I can share, but I'm keeping you both in my thoughts.

Oh no! I know you are devastated. I don’t have the proper words to express how sad and sorry that I am to hear this dreadful news. It feels so wrong that you had to say goodbye to such a young cat. I know that you did your very best for him. I know that you loved him and he loved you. My heart goes out to you. I am so sorry.

Thank you. This support is very important to me right nowπŸ’”

Our hearts here are with you. I hope you have people close by, too, who help you grieve and remember and celebrate Asik.

One of the greatest gifts I had was when a very beloved cat passed, a friend called me every day simply to talk and laugh and cry and remember my cat with me. We have a grief support forum here, and please post to it as much as you would like, if you would care to. I am sure we would love to see more photos of Asik, and whatever you are comfortable with.
