Pulling Out an IV Catherer

Our vet left the iv port in our cats leg all wrapped up, after his discharge from the hospital. He won't be needing to run back in for fluids so it can come out. It that something easy I can just do safely at home. Trying to avoid the trama of the cage and going back in the vet, if we can just do it.

Any tips/comments are appreciated.

You might call your vet for instructions.

Have you got someone to help?
You'll need to
- take of the tape; the cat is likely to be squirmy for this.
- in a straight line, remove the catheter; this will feel odd, so more squirming.
- apply a gauze pad and wrap to staunch any bleeding. Your cat likely won't appreciate this either.
