I'm having difficulty giving puddin his shots lately. He's very aware of the shot, which he never has been, and moves away from me - today caused the needle to come out and he refused to let me shoot him again (I tried 3x with what remained in the syringe). Tomorrow I plan to divide the dose between two syringes (equally) and see if that helps. Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas why this is happening - maybe this is just a high dose situation?

I’ve read lantus stings in high doses. It’s too bad Levemir is being discontinued in tge US which is what is often suggested. I wonder if you would be able to get it from Canada. I’ll tag Wendy. @Wendy&Neko

Elise is right, Lantus has an acid base that can sting at higher doses. I found Neko started to walk away during the shot. I didn't have that problem when I switched her to Levemir.

Levemir is discontinued from sales in the US at the end of this year. I think you can get Levemir from Marks Marine in Canada. They only sell cartridges now - which are basically the pens without the extra plastic packaging. See this post for information:
I've heard they are responsive to queries. Prices might not be the same as in that post. We have a few members here using Levemir in the US and sourcing from Marks.

Thank you both. I will talk to my vet about possibly switching to Levemir. I've been wondering when the acid sting would finally hit.
