Prozinc insulin...

Can anyone tell me how long a vial of prozinc insulin is good for before it starts to lose its effectiveness? I have a 10ml vial that I purchased in early April that has about 1/4 vial remaining... A week or two ago I noticed Abilene's numbers are not as good as they were the week or so before-- I had decreased her insulin from 2.2 units to 1.2 units because she was going hypo...now I'm increasing it back up to 1.8+ because it isn't doing the job it once was.
Could it be that the insulin is losing its strength? I don't understand how a dose that was too much for her is now not enough for her a few weeks later.
Could it be that the skin around her shoulder blade area that has slightly thickened isn't absorbing the insulin as well anymore?
I'm lost.
I will take her to the vet to inquire about any underlying issues that may be causing the increased BG readings, but I want to make sure it isn't something I can change or do different before I spend the money for everything at the vets office.

**I am currently inputing data and updating her SS now**

Unfortunately, the insulin has probably lost some of its effectiveness at this point. I've never been able to use up a whole bottle either. This same thing happened with my kitty. It wouldn't hurt to vary injection sites tho.

Where else can I inject? She does NOT like the hind area poked and prodded at. The shoulder blade area is a very tolerable place for her, but I have unfortunately noticed that it has slightly become thicker. I always try to grab a different chunk of skin and I rub the area after to disperse the insulin around that zone, but I don't know what I could do differently?
I feel like we are taking many steps backwards. :-/

Goof never like being poked in the rump area either, but a few times a week I could get away with it, it kind of gave the shoulder area a break. Make sure when giving
the rub afterward, that you're not accidentally pushing some of the isulin back out of the puncture.

The Prozinc bottle that I am using was bought and started on Feb 24 (this year), the last bottle before that was Sept 6, 2014 and the bottle before that was March 18, 2014. So basically, I am going through one bottle every six months. When I buy a new bottle, I drop my dose .2 for a couple of doses just in case it may be stronger. However, I really have not seen much of a difference between the new and old bottle. So I use the insulin until its empty.

I always shoot in the shoulder i.e. left side in am and right side pm. I try and not hit the same place.
