I added this to another post, but since not everyone may read it, I wanted to share it with everyone.

One way to protect your vial of insulin is to put it in a pill bottle. Wrap either a paper towel or cotton around the vial to make sure it fits snugly in the pill bottle. Also make sure that the top of the vial sits below the lip of the pill bottle. This has saved many vials at my house.

You can also buy protectors for the insulin vials, but this is an inexpensive way to keep your insulin safe.

Thanks for posting

ADW sells insulin bottle covers: http://www.americandiabeteswholesale.com/catalog/insulin-vial-covers_73.htm I used the "Securitee Blanket" one for Lantus.

If yu use an insulin pen such as Lantus SoloStar or Levemir FlexPen, you don't really need to protect the pen that is in use but you can if you want. Bubble wrap or paper towel around the pen will work.

Don't store your insulin bottle or pen in the door of the fridge. It will get rattled around every time the fridge is opened. Put your insulin on a shelf where you can easily find it. Maybe put the insulin or pens in a small colorful tray/container so that you can easily spot it.

Thought I'd chime in on this one too. You two postedd great suggestions and protection is an important thing to remind people.

In the VERY beginning of this not-so-fun adventure, I watched a fabulous video, and the gal recommeded placing the insulin vial in a glass to protect it while in the refrigerator.

So, I took a glass beer mug and placed the insulin vial in it. Because it is thick glass, it keeps the insulin very cold, and the handle makes it very easy to take in and out of the refrigerator. It won't tip, and absolutely nothing touches the vial.

Just a another thought.
