Can you guys give me some good tips on proper injection techniques?

I am double checking that I am injecting my cat currently. I usually make a fur tent and pinch the skin and then give the shot at the bottom or in the middle of this tent. If I give the skin in the middle where it is tight is it OK rather than in a pocket? Is this OK?

I read on a post that you should give the injection under the skin not through. Could someone explain this better to me.

there has been times when I feel on one site on my cat that the insulin leaks out possibly. I felt a pimple or something in that spot. I am not sure. I am going to have her shaved again.

I didn't have problems with Bg reading at the beginning so I assumed I was injecting properly. My numbers have changed so I want to eliminate the possibility that I am not injecting properly. I watched some videos but I see different methods.

Give me INJECTIONS FOR DUMMIES PLEASE

When you make the tent, push your finger into the area at the bottom of the tent (where the skin meets) and that is where you want to inject the insulin. Here is a pic that may help explain:

I also used a short needle. One reason - because it is shorter, I didn't have to worry about the needle going through the skin and out the other side.

Thanks Hilary for such a quick reply

I should let go of the tent before I remove the needle. The article said to count to ten before removing the needle. Do you do that?

I never counted to ten before letting go of the needle. I did make sure to push the plunger all the way with the tiny doses and hold for a second or 2, but never for a count of 10. Depends on what your cat will let you do.
