Hi all,
Just curious if anyone's furry children have had problems with their eyes/vision in relation to their DM? Nico has been pretty well regulated, and no issues thus far with DKA, kidney disease, HBP, or anything else.

December 2nd, we had a wonderful trip to the ER vet and waited all day for someone to look at his eye to tell us it would resolve on it's own - he had hyphema probably from a skirmish with his siblings. (prev thread - https://felinediabetes.com/FDMB/threads/red-eye.256203/)

That leads us to this past week - he had hyphema twice more this week, and from Saturday to today he is still having issues. I can't get into any local ER vets due to how impacted they are from staffing shortages, so my vet is going to see him next Monday. He's back to acting normal at least, but based on his BG I can tell there is definitely something going on. I'm just curious if anyone else has gone through something similar?

Appreciate any feedback!
Bella and Nico

I have never seen that but I wouod agree with what the ER vet said. I would say the BGs are effected by the inflammation of the healing process. I have seen glaucoma caused by iris melanoma, scratched corneas, and a growth or something on Bailey's cornea (it was finally resolved)

Oh wow! That is so crazy, I'm glad it resolved for Bailey - thank you for sharing! That puts my mind at ease a little bit, I just felt so bad that he kept having issues with his right eye. I'm sure once his vet comes to check on him she'll be able to recommend a more proper treatment (eye drops, etc) versus me just putting plain ol' eye ointment in there.

I hope your vet can give you something to help :cat:
Want to let you know cannot see your spreadsheet :cat:
Thanks Diane! I'm not sure what's up with my spreadsheet, I click the link and it opens for me - I did recently update it though, I bet I missed a step somewhere :banghead: lol I'll see if I can figure it out!

I will tag @Bandit's Mom Bhooma to see what's wrong
Thanks Bhooma
You need to give access for everyone to be able to view the SS. Are you using a phone or a computer to set-up/edit the SS?

Hi Bhooma, I'm using my smart phone at the moment. I think that's the step I missed - I looked back on the steps for linking the spreadsheet and I wasn't able to access the step to publish the sheet from my phone. I'll try from my laptop a little later this morning and see if I can do it that way. Thanks ladies!

When you open the spreadsheet using your laptop (in a browser), click on the green box at the top right corner than says "Share". In the pop-up box, under "Get link", choose "Anyone on the Internet with this link can view".

Ok, let's give this another try! I adjusted the sharing abilities, let me know if you all can see his spreadsheet now. Thanks again ladies! :D

Hi all,
So Nico had his visit today with his regular vet. After an examination of his eye, she had an inkling it was due to blood pressure. She did a few blood pressure readings (luckily she comes to the house so he was calm enough for this) and yup, he has high BP. So today we started on Amlodipine. Just in case anyone else ever experiences something like this, she indicated HBP can cause the blood vessels in the eye to expand and this lead to bleeding in the eye.

I'm glad you got a diagnosis and will be starting the amlodipine. Poor baby.
Please let us know how he's doing , I hope his eye clears up soon :cat:
Nico is such a handsome boy
Thanks Diane! His eye is much better now, we have a recheck in a few weeks to see what his BP reading is after the medicine has a chance to work. :cat:
