Problems with ReliOn Micro?

These came so highly recommended here that I was surprised I'm having problems. First off, the battery light is already on. I've only had the thing since Friday. Secondly, it's insanely easy to turn on the setup menu. It's gone on even when putting a strip in. I've had to re-set the date 3 times in the last few days and am so frustrated with it that I finally stopped bothering and the setup menu has come up at least 3 times since then, all by accident. I've read and re-read the directions so I know I'm not hitting both buttons to enter set up on accident. I'm kind of frustrated with the thing but I'm wondering if it's just me (this is my first meter ever), if I just have a bad one or what. I'm considering returning it. It's not worth a lower price to me if it's not going to work at all.

I think you should take it back to the store and ask them to help you.
I had a ReliOn that I used for only a couple of weeks, but it did not give me any troubles. I think the one you have may be defective, and if they can't find what's wrong, they should give you a new one, especially if the battery light is showing already. My batterys usually last a couple years.

You can't return them to the store due to health regulations. There's a number on the box to call with issues. If you call, they might send a new battery or a new meter.

I think it's an individual meter issue, though. I have a Micro and haven't had any of those problems. I'd try replacing the battery and see if that helps the menu problem. I've never had it come up when it wasn't supposed to.

I also think it's your meter. I have one, and while I don't use it every day anymore, I have had no problems with it. Cedric even knocked it on the floor a couple of weeks ago (the back popped off) and it still works no problem.

Hi Sabrina and Hoobs! We haven't met yet, so his and hellos first, and welcome! cat_pet_icon

Sounds like either a bad meter or bad battery, not operator error. I'd call the number in your paperwork for issues to see if they can help fix the problem, replace the battery, or the whole meter.

Great job on getting your SS and profile up and linked! And what wonderful pictures! Hobbs is adorable!

On the SS, if you are giving Hobbs insulin, you might want to put the amounts in the blue cells under the "U". This will help you, and anyone helping you, know what has been given when, especially when looking back later. Also, if you test after feeding, you'll want to put the results in the + cells. The AMPS and PMPS are the pre-feeding and shot readings. Putting post feeding BG results in the corresponding + cell lets everyone know, at a glance, when the test was done in relation to the food/shot since both can effect BG levels. Great notes, by the way!

Sounds like you just have a defective meter, I have a Relion Micro that I use for testing Maxwell and have never had a problem with mine, except once when Musette first arrived and decided to knock it off into the dog's water bowl. After that it was toast, but I just called the customer service number and had a new meter in just a couple of days. Just don't tell them it is for a cat. I just told them that my 12 year old son was a diabetic and his sister knocked it off the counter and into the dog's water bowl.

Technically true, I just left out the part that my 12 year old son walks on four feet and is covered in fur and so does his sister.

I also think you just have a faulty meter I have never had this happen with my micro or confirm give them a call about getting a new one and I would go ahead and purchase another one while you wait since we all need a backup meter to have on hand

I'm not having set-up problems but mine was showing low battery. I put two different new batteries in it and it's still showing low battery. I was going to call the company today.

Hi there,

I'm Ansley, the brand manager for ReliOn. The problems you've described with your micro definitely shouldn't be happening! Please send a private message to me and I will make sure we get a replacement unit out to you pronto.

Thanks,
Ansley
