viewtopic.php?f=28&t=31192. This is sueandsamwise? (or something like that). Cat is not regulated and she is having problems. Had posted here ---don't know why she is now posting on health and not here. She last posted Nov 27? This is the person who was going to ask vet about rebound, etc.

It's upsetting when people recommend changing insulins when they have not even tried PZI or the other insulins they recommend. :YMSIGH: W/E I can't save every cat.

Sorry,Amanda. I had no wish to hurt your feelings. It is just frustrating to be trying hard to help someone and find that recommendations are being made to switch insulins when there really has not been follow through on what was advised. If she switches insulin before she has really given it a chance to work, it will delay the possibility of helping her cat.

Amanda,
It is nothing personal OK. There is a long history of folks recommending other insulins to PZIers [including myself] when they did not know the whole cat or explain the disadvantages of certain other insilins along with the advantages. I personally have found it very frustrating to the point that I avoid Health forum. It's to the point of being a cliche. So you are just hearing from me a little bit of a built up effect. OK? I have a known and long history of taking exception to the blind recommendations for other insulins. And for whatever reason I feel a little protective of other PZIers being pounced on about changing insulins. Since I've been here a little while I don't mind voicing my opinion on the topic or getting a little prickly about it.

Again, I think it's OK to recommend other insulins. I personally recommend other insulins. But I just think it should be done in the most responsible/complete possible way. It's too easy to just recommend another insulin without really understanding the needs of the cat and owner and explaining the disadvantages along with the advantages. My guess is that less recommending of other insulins would happen if folks took the long/complete route.

I have more reasoning but I've carried on too long here.

In Sue's case she just started testing before every PS about 6 days ago. Even if she changed to another insulin I think they would want her testing in a more consistent/methodical manner. I think any other people giving dosing advice with any other insulins would have difficulty giving advice when the PSs were not reliably captured. We would love to work with her to get her system working better for her. We encourage people to post in here on a regular basis to get the most attention. I hope Sue and Sam will be back here when Sam is feeling better.

I wish something had been said directly to me. It was really disturbing to find this new thread. My feelings are hurt, even if that was not the intention.

It was not my intention to recommend changing insulin or even recommend the other insulin, though I can clearly see how it could be taken that way. I will be more careful. I was more thinking out loud... brainstorming/troubleshooting... knowing that others would chime in with more information. I see now that it does not work that way.

Knowing that tone does not always come thru in posts, I am not feeling defensive... but I am feeling hurt that this side discussion had to take place. Please know in the future I am always open to discussions, have no issues with being wrong, and I know that my knowledge is limited to my own experiences.

Amanda,
I'm sorry. I'm for hurting your feeling AND for not having the patience to explain the background to you directly. I am not here to hurt people's feeling and I did not mean to hurt your feelings. Please understand that my frustration with the issue it is obviously to a point of boiling over. It has been that way for sometime. I generally avoid health because I do not like the frustration and really don't have the time to address it on an individual basis with every person who does it. There are some that no matter what I say feel that it is their duty to encourage the use of other insulins than PZI. I'm sorry I inadvertently lumped you in with that group. I could spend my life monitoring Health and explaining the problem. I've spent time trying to do just that. It's gets nowhere except me being really ticked off and bitter. Instead I try to limit myself to PZI where I can grumble about it like an old codger.

If Sue ultimately decides another insulin is best for her and Sam I completely support that. And if she changes insulin she'll be in a better place to take advantage of that if we can get her system optimized here. And I totally encourage you help in getting their system optimized - we need all the help we can get.

I totally understand where you are coming from. Thanks.

Amanda
Ps... I tend to get along really well with old codgers :-D
