Roller coaster with high numbers then low and I don't know why. She had been getting out and getting dry food from a lady who feeds strays. She has been inside for over a week now with no kibble and still her numbers are wonky.

I was wondering- if she shared some feeding with feral/stray cats- could she have gotten a worm or something? Nothing coming out of her butt yet- but I know that is with fleas. I was wondering about a tape worm or something that could be the reason she is still eating A LOT, having the high/low numbers roller coaster, yet not drinking so much and for the amount she is eating she isn't giving out the poop. I clean every night so I know how much poop is in there and for the 12-15 oz she eats in a 24 hour period there is not enough poop to show for it. And her big belly. I'll research it a bit to see how possible that is but just wanted to throw it out there in case anyone knew about it.

Ketones... only started to barely blush to a trace about 14 seconds, so I count that as low.

thanks.

Maybe her stomach is just reacting to the change of food? When was the last time she pooped? And did it look more "solid" than usual?

If you think she is constipated you could offer her some milk (about 2 tablespoons every 2 to 4 hours) It's a natural laxative.
Otherwise, add fibre by adding to her diet some PLAIN canned pumpkin, not pie filler (a couple of teaspoons twice daily)

Heres an interesting website about cat constipation :

Was worried about that earlier (a few small round drops rather than normal finger long poops). Had her on pumpkin for a week- did work but not as hoped, now have her on mirilax and that has made a large improvement over the last two weeks and has had her normal poop for two days now.

Not too much on the food- she has been eating canned since Thanksgiving- only getting the carbs recently when she has been feeling good enough to go out her flap- which shot her numbers up. When I put something in front of the door they started coming down again but she managed to wiggle around it and get out... the cycle was stopped when I put something heavy in front of the door- over a week and her numbers are still wonky and I don't know why.

Thanks for the website. I'll look at it while typing.

Well... her PM wasn't that bad- fasting (maybe) was 317 at +11 and +12 to shoot was 435- at least it wasn't 500+ again. Maybe she was just lazy and her 'run' today worked a little bg magic

The reason I say it was maybe fasting was that she actually had some food left in her bowl when I came home- not much, 1/2 teaspoon but she normally doesn't have ANY. And she didn't hoover down the first ounce as normal for her, took her a lot longer to eat it. Ane she left quite a bit of the next two ounces of chicken and FF- it was still there at shot time and she usually has at least 4 ounces when I get home (and I was home 1 hour late today) and wants more. Not today.

Maybe the carbs she had just kicked her off the path of getting down to regulation and she now found her way back on since she hasn't been sneaking any kcc in a while. It makes a strange sort of sense as it takes the just diagnosed a while to stop eating everything not nailed down that a cat who is carb sensitive like mine could take a while to get back to getting anywhere close to lower numbers.

Didn't get a chance to research at work today... for some reason I had to work :-D . I filed, I entered data, I changed calendar appointment and ordered supplies... Busy, busy, busy. But I will research it.

I do have Frontline that takes care of fleas and eggs and ticks but since she hadn't been out in 6 months I hadn't dosed her. I need to do that tonight because she does come out with me to the garden now and I don't want her to get any. She looked very stoic and serene when the squirrel cussed her out for just being there  .

Regarding tapeworms - you would soon see evidence - they break off in pieces. BF's cat had them. He said the pieces look like rice. It stays on the cat's butt area and you see them in the poop. It's really gross apparently. Keep lookin'.

To me, the dry pieces look like seseme seeds - very visible if you have dark linens and they're on your bed. Also, you see the white pieces of tape in their poops, assuming they don't cover all the time. One of my guys once passed the WHOLE thing. It was gross, but I was intrigued to see what it looked like. Picture a cassette tape (music) w/ the tape pulled out and either rolled or wadded up about the size of a chewed piece of gum. Yes, it was disgusting!

I haven't seen anything like that yet- and I have been looking!

She has had them in the past- years ago when we had a soft spring and the fleas came out early.

It might have been her body with the carbs- even though it has been over a week she hangs on to them. Last night she was totally unlike her current self- she was almost back to her old (pre-FD) behavior in eating and for this morning she did not wake me up twice in the night to get her food. Usually she would have eaten 5-7oz by 7am, this morning it was just 3.

Yesterday after work she came out with me while I was in the garden so I know she was feeling better. Pee is less, poop could be more. I looked at the website Kim sent me and realized she is still a 3- and when I forget to add her mirilax she goes to a 2 or even 1. So- increased the dose this morning and will keep an eye on it. (And for 'seeds')

She eats 5-7 oz's by 7 am?? WOW.
My cats eat 3 oz in the AM and 3 oz in the PM.
Is she a very hungry cat? Isn't that a ton of food for one cat?
