1. What kind of probiotics are people using?
2. What yogurt is best; plain, flavored, Activia, or does it just depend on what kitty will eat?

Joe, the probiotic which is popular here is Fortiflora by Purina. You can get it on line or from your vet. I have no idea about yogurt.

Yogurt doesn't tend to have enough probiotics in it to make it therapeutic for cats. You're better off using probiotic capsules from the refrigerator section of a health food store. I like Natural Factor's Ultimate Multi or MegaFood's MegaFlora. Both have a wide variety of organisms and are considerably more potent than Fortiflora (so you just need to use a tiny pinch). What does your kitty need probiotics for?

Tomorrow she finishes up a 10 day regimen of antibiotic due tho her having blood in her urine when she was Dx and had been plagued with runny nose for a week or so. Couple days a go she was constipated (first time in 15 years). I gave her a tsp of Purelax which cleared that up, at least for now, so though probiotics might be in order?

I use a product for Willie called Friskie Felines. Contains probiotics and other goodness. I've just restarted him on it as I took him off probiotics while he was on a daily dose of cyclosporine (immune suppressant drug. wasn't comfy introducing bacteria, even if good bacteria, into the system of an immunocompromised cat). It has definitely made a difference for him!

I use Fortiflora. A word about yogurt...plain probiotic yogurt still has added sugar, so it will raise numbers as I found with Bandit. But it was a nice gentle boost that cleared quickly, so I ended up using it when his numbers were low enough to make me nervous before bed.

Thanks Julia & Bandit,
I'll get some (yogurt). Talked to a lady the other day that used a little "Activia"....any thoughts. I am assuming though that plain, not flavored, is best.
BTW (totally off topic) what is the GA I see after many of the members sig?

Joe,

GA is shorthand here for Gone Ahead or Guardian Angel. It means the kitty has died. When I first signed on, Oliver was diabetic and alive. Thanks to your post in Tech and the reply, I found out how to change my user name to reflect that he had died, without reregistering. I have wanted to do that for years, but didn't know how.

Well there ya go. I was most pleased to find out we could make those kinds of changes without re-registering.....most forums I have been on don't allow it.
