Lincoln once again went to the lagoon at night... but at lest now i know we are giving 7.25 because of the calipers and it is a slightly smaller dose then what i was giving him before... so waiting for the depot to go to the new spot

I need some advice for Savannah.... her AB ended last night... she is still experiencing runny poos with lots of hair in them... i know i need to get her on a good probiotic... i have been listening to the vet about FortiFlora... but after doing reading online today there really isnt much probiotics in it, they arent alive, and its actually not good for an IBD kitty!!! so was hoping to gather some advice from you all on what human ones you use and if anyone has an IBD kitty what they found really helps!... want to get her guts back on track now that she is off the ABs

Hoping all kitties here are safe today and that they let their beans sleep! lol :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:[/URL]

Hi Amber,
I used this product when Flame was younger and suffered from what the vet "thought" was IBD (and turned out really to be intolerance for grains and glutens - didn't find that out till he was DX with FD in 2008 and I switched foods). It's made by Jarrow and it's called Pet Dophilus. Says it doesn't need refrigeration, but I used to keep mine in the fridge to extend the shelf life.

I use Renew Life Ultimate Flora 15 billion for my IBD girl. It has really helped her. If she has a flare I add S. boulardii, as well, until the diarrhea stops.

k DH home early to renew license... so going to run and look for the renew life... hopefully they carry the 15billion one in canada or i will have to order it online

and of course Lincoln chooses now to go low during the day :banghead: fed him 9%LC and will check again before i leave and leave out food just in case

thank you all for the suggestions... Jarrow looks like i have to order it online for sure... would like to find something i can start her on today and not wait a week + while she is having soft poos

I tried the Jarrow Petdophilus, but it was only available in the US, so chose to go with something easier to get. You can get Renew Ultimate at Save on Foods and Real Canadian Superstore here, as well as a lot of the pharmacies. Not sure about the 15 million one though. The Natural Factors at 12 million is similar (and cheaper).

I used Florastor with the S. Boulardii in it. It can be put right into the food without detection. But, it is a bit pricey. You only need to use 1/2 cap twice a day then after the diarrhea stops, do a maintenance dose of 1/4 cap for a few days. It can be purchased in CVS. Another product, Jarrow, much cheaper on line but it has something called MOS in it which makes it bitter and it needs to be put into gel caps and pilled.

Between the Florastor and SEB I had great results with Bubba's last GI issue.

ok... so turns out that is a pill not a capsule... crushed it in the mortar and pestle though and she ate some food with it in it.... will have to maybe look for a capsule one too

Lincoln was going low when i left so i fed him 3 temptations... i know it wasnt the wisest thing to do.. but i fed LC and 30 mins later he had dropped more... so this way i could feel safe leaving to find something for Savannah... if not i wouldnt have left the house

looks like i am still on the hunt... the regular every day one i got for her... is the pill that i crushed... says should not be crushed...

and she ate some of the food and now wont eat anymore... at least i got the one to help with the runny poos

the other concern is that cause its a pill it has more ingredients...

Non-medicinal Ingredients: Cellulose, hypromellose, pectin, sodium bicarbonate, sodium carbonate, silicon dioxide (mineral source), stearic acid, turmeric

i dont believe anything in there should hurt her but now i am questioning it of course... good thing i only gave her 1/2 of a crushed pill and she ate only half the food i gave her...

Capsules are much easier (and less junk inside). The Natural Factors dose is also half a capsule twice a day. I just mix it in with one of the meals.

Good to know:bighug: thank you

the dose seems to be flattening out more since i started doing the calipers 7.25... i thought i was doing 7.25 before like i said but calipers showed it to be closer to 7.5... wondering if that .25 more was too much and causing the big highs and lows??

finding it really hard to find an equivalent probiotic to what you can all get in the USA... the stores i went to didnt have the brands everyone in Canada suggested... guess i will have to hit up more health food stores and pharmacies... just wanted to start helping her tonight:(

Hoping Lincoln stays more flat for you tonight so you can get some sleep! :bighug:

I don't know if cats can take "human probiotics", but my pharmacist recommended Probaclac. I take it twice a day and it's in a capsule. I take the regular one (6.5 billion per capsule) but I know they also have extra strength capsules.
