Princess seems hot

Hello!

It's finally nice in Toronto, and Princess is exhibiting normal behaviours for when she's warm; pink nose, chillin' in the bathroom, not doing too much.

However the vet has taken her caninsulin units down from 9 daily to 6, now 4. I confess I haven't mastered home testing. I tried just now, with no success.

Just wondering, is it possible that she's hypo, not the weather? I gave her a touch more food which she was clamoring for, but that's not unusual for her, she's always hungry.

Additionally, she's being treated (day 5 of 8) for an ear infection with drops to the ear, but it's bothering her far less than it was.

Advice would be great; I don't want her to hypo, and I don't think my vet will be in tomorrow with the holiday.

Thanks!

Liz

I do really appreciate that you took the time to respond. However your response is not particularly helpful. I recognize that home testing is ideal. I stated that I haven't been doing it, and was not able to get a reading this afternoon.

There are no certainties, but I was looking for someone with experience in cat's behaviours around heat; is it more often associated with hypos than spikes? Because without her BGs, information, not chastisement, is helpful.

And yes, there is a very small amount of prednisone in the drops that my vet assured me would not interfere with her diabetes management.

I used steroid-containing eardrops on my Twigie and it made her BG approach 500. Do yu and a thermometer to measure her temperature?

It could be any number of things. Try to measure her temperature to see if she is running a temp. Anything over 103 is a fever for a cat. It could be a hypo symptom, but not a usual one. Could be a reaction to the meds. Could be an infection. The pred in the ear drops can effect BG levels for some cats - not all though. My Yoda had to have ear drops with a small amount of steroids in them and it maybe raised his numbers by 30 pts. Larry has experience where it did raise his cat's BG levels though.
