oh, now i see your comment.

You hold the dose at 0.75u - Lantus dosing is based upon how low a dose takes a cat. To some extent we ignore the highs. If you get the urge to increase, ask someone to take a look. Bounces can cause high numbers and we don't increase based upon them.
Ok, I think I get it. Funny thing is the vet has no idea about this.

Most vets don't have a lot of experience with dosing for diabetic cats, especially not with Lantus and Levemir. Those are human insulins - although great for diabetic cats - but their dosing is very different. The older insulins for animals were dosed based upon the preshot.

Fortunately, you hit the jackpot with this site. People here do feline diabetes 24/7/365 and we see a lot of cats. Don't blame your vet - it's pretty much the case with most. There are some that have more experience than others, of course, but most people euthanize diabetic cats so vets typically don't see too many.

Thank you :bighug:

You're welcome - just paying it back. Others did it for me when I got here too - and just like you I found it overwhelming. Fortunately, you can take it one step at a time and keep asking questions - there are many people who will help you learn what you need to know to help your sweet Princess.

I hope to be able to help someone in the future too!

The WalMart ReliOn Confirm and Confirm Micro are identical to the Arkray USA Glucocard 01 and 01 Mini. All take the same test strips which need 3 microliters of blood, compared to the ReliOn Prime which takes 5 microliters.

The Glucocard 01 and 01 Mini are sold at ADW.

See my signature link Glucometer Notes for some feline-specific reference values when using human glucometers measuring in mg/dL, mmol/L, and pet meters measuring in mg/dL.

Descriptions of each protocol. Note that each has you use the same dose all the time, unless a reduction is earned or special circumstances happen.

I am not very experienced with this but I imagine they might be a slight bounce from the low numbers yesterday. Hold the 0.75 dose steady for now and the numbers should settle back done in a day or so.

Ps it is helpful to put the date in the title :)

I see a sea of blue on her ss today - great with a human glucometer and even better with an AT. We don't have an exact comparison for AT numbers to human glucometer numbers, but members have done comparisons for us and we can ballpark that the normal range for a cat on insulin (50-120 on a human glucometer) is somewhat close to 68-160ish on an AT. That means that Princess spent almost the entire day in normal numbers today. :D

How are you doing with everything today?
