Prezzies outside the litter box?

Always something new with these two.

I keep finding "presents" outside the box! This has been going on for about the past week or so, not every single day, but it's gotten more frequent. I keep finding hard little presents outside the box - not sure which cat is the culprit at this point, but I'm leaning more towards Mr. Kink because of the size. He was having loose stools for a while when he had really bad PU/PD but that's kind of subsided.

I've only seen them do this a couple of times, and it's usually my non-diabetic kitty, when she has a difficult time getting one out she'll have a spaz attack and jump out of the box and run across the house to get it to leave her alone. It's pretty funny, but don't tell her I laugh at her.

Could one of them be dehydrated? What would cause unusually hard stools or leaving them outside the box? It's pretty clean - we try to clean every day, and at least, every other day.

I'm no where near well versed in this subject, I just know it sounds a lot like our cat. She has colitis (irritable bowel disease). Which can be caused by parasites, food, or stress. We also saw blood and mucous at one point though (not always). Her stools are often "tar" like.
Or maybe its just related to a food change, if you've done that recently. Possibly she has an allergy to something?

Hmm, we changed food over two weeks ago, and this just started recently. I guess I'm just worried about dehydration/kidneys etc. Not sure about allergies - they've usually been fine on Fancy Feast. Might have something to do with Mr. Kink's neuropathy - maybe he's having a hard time crouching to go? Just started him on Zobaline, so hopefully that should do the trick!

If the pieces of stool are hard and dry, I'd suggest that the first thing to try is adding water to the food - yes, to wet food. Start with a teaspoon and work up to as much as the cats will eat. I would add water to both since you aren't sure which it is. My cat's food is equal water and canned food, and in the winter I use warm water so that it is mouse temperature. In the summer, I use cool water. If this doesn't help in a few days, consult your vet. Painful elimination can lead to other problems - and they get more expensive to solve as time goes on.

My Merlyn used to just poop wherever he was when the urge hit because he didnt know if he would get it out or not. My new cat Baloo also has a constipation history and also drops them o/s box when hes having troubles.
Merlyn was constipated and had heart condition so it made it hard to get it out. I ditto the water suggestion, and if that doesnt help, you can try a little miralax.

*LOL* I've seen my cats and my dog do this, occasionally. "Get it off of me!!!"
