Hello all!

Earlier this year, I posted frequently about Pinky. We have gotten his blood sugar under control without insulin, and his early stage kidney disease has been fine and we have been able to keep whatever level that indicates kidney problems low.

This weekend, I noticed that the Pretty Litter we use has started turning a green-blue from urine. I know olive green can be normal, but this is starting to have blue in it. Online, it indicates that this can mean signs of a urinary tract infection. I know it can be stones, but he doesn't cry or strain to pee.

What can I do about this? Is there something I can give to help reduce the alkalinity?

Any advice would be appreciated!

I wanted to add because I just considered this:

My male cat, Pinky, has been just fine, and I monitored him pottying, and he doesn't seem to be having any issues.

My female cat, Inky, who has otherwise been healthy, has been hiding a lot more recently, and she has been extra clingy/attention seeking to us, which is out of the ordinary from her. The blue was also found in her litterbox, not his. I had initially panicked because he has kidney issues and I made that connection, but now I am starting to believe it is her.

My question still stands: is there anything I can give them to reduce alkalinity, and would it be safe enough to give to both of them since I am not positive who it is just yet?

Talk to your vet. If the pH change is due to a UTI acidifying the urine will not resolve the UTI. Also if you over acidify the urine the cat may develop oxalate crystals which can't be dissolved by making the urine more alkaline.

I am thankful I brought Inky to the vet! She does indeed have a mild UTI, but her kidney levels are also elevated and she is having a pancreatitis flareup (which we didn't know she had). Though we are going back in a month to test, they said her kidney levels are elevated likely because of her UTI. Basically, they said, this is what happened to Pinky (when he was jaundiced), but because of the Pretty Litter I was able to catch it before it got to the point where she was jaundiced like him. They gave me Hill's Science KD dry food for now, but once she is out of the woods I will switch to to the Weruva wet food Pinky is on for his pancreatitis and kidneys.

Once and only once I relied on that pretty litter, I bought an extra litter box to see changes on both cats, I found it to be a scam, because my Corky that was diagnosed diabetic, when tested at the hospital for 12 hours, he had no kidney pancreas no infections and the urine that touched the litter was greenish sometimes yellow, all different colors and on Coco healthy as a lioness which I also was checked by the vet, nothing wrong with her and the same thing was happening in the other litter box and I know who did what because I would follow the to their litter box.

I stick with Fresh Step Crystals 100% on point no smell, aging, and no mess
