HI all,

Just wandering what your thoughts are on preloading the shots and then storing the loaded syringes back in the fridge until use? I have parents looking after H this weekend and thought this might make it easier for them? I can't think of a decent reason why not but just thought I would check with you guys?

Many thanks

Unfortunately, it's not advised -- in fact, the drug company that manufactures Lantus advises against it. See this link on the topic. The article summarizes:
Aventis Pharmaceuticals does not recommend prefilling syringes with Lantus and storing for any period longer than needed for application. In addition BD states the following (9): “BD does not recommend that any of our syringes be prefilled more than a few minutes in advance of the injection. There are no conclusive studies to determine the safety or risks associated with this practice.

What may be helpful is to take a syringe and fill it to Harry's dose with a colored liquid (e.g., milk, juice, colored water) so your parents will have a dummy syringe to compare their syringe with.

OK grand, I'm glad I asked :) They have just not been round to give them the demo how to load the Lantus. They are OK with testing as they've done that before with Caninsulin but not yet on the Lantus.

Appreciate your input - many thanks
