*sigh*

After a visit to the vet, it looks like George has intestinal cancer. I only had an x-ray which showed that the tumor was growing on the outside of her intestines. The doc prescribed mirtazapine to jump start George's appetite (she has refused all flavors of FF classic and just looked at me when I offered her tuna) and prednisolone to help treat the tumor. Yes, I was told that an ultrasound as well as a biopsy is in order, but that isn't in the budget for either of my cats at this time.

The vet also said that as George had been treated in the past for diabetes, her numbers may start to rise again. Have any of you found it hard to regulate a cat on steroids?

First of all, sorry about the diagnosis.

My Tom was a diet controlled diabetic for over 3 years until his cancer diagnosis. We started Pred., which made him feel a lot better and gave him his appetite back, but brought higher glucose numbers.
We had a difficult time trying to regulate because of how unpredictable his appetite was and his body's reaction to the Pred. It became a balancing act to try and keep numbers low enough to be comfortable and giving him the Pred. to make him feel better.

Unfortunately for us, we were dealing with a very aggressive, fast moving, untreatable cancer and we only really bought ourselves a few months. Tom was 18 years and 4 months.

I am glad we started the Pred. and even with the higher numbers and would do it again.

Keep us posted.
