Potty problems

I don't know what's up with Misha, but as much can food as he puts away and as big as he it seems like he should be having larger bowel movements. When he goes, it's only a tiny bit. Has anyone else experienced this with their cat? It's almost like he's slightly constipated, but since he's only on canned food I don't see how he could be.

If you have noticed a decrease in the amount of poop Misha has even if he is still eating the same amount of food as he always does then I would call the vet. Sometimes my cats will have a day or two where they don't poop as much as normal, but then they return to their normal amount.

Is he acting like he's not feeling well? Do you think he's constipated? Is he trying (straining) in the box and nothing is coming out? If the answer is yes, you might want to take him to the vet.

If there seems to be no discomfort and he is pooping, just not as much, it might be because the canned food has less filler in it.

Be very careful. You do not want constipation to become chronic and develop into megacolon.
It CAN happen.

I would suggest you get some miralax to have on hand. I would try adding 1/8 tsp miralax to morn meal, plus extra water in the canned food, maybe 1/2 can water to a full can of food.

How much food, what kind, is Misha eating, and what is his stool like, hard, or soft?
How much water is he drinking? I have one cat who has never been a water drinker so I have to add water to all of his foods, equal parts water to food.

I had all my cats on canned food at one time when I still had my diabetic cat Lilly. I also had civvie Andy at the time who had chronic constipation as an ongoing health problem. His constipation did not get any better being on canned food if anything it got worse. I was giving him Lactulose twice a day but he was not diabetic.
As Gayle suggested I would get some Miralax and maybe start giving 1/8 teaspoon.

Also, once you are certain there is no blockage, even partial, a small amount of psyllium - 1/4 tsp - 1 or 2 times a day, will help hold water in the feces, providing soft bulk to help them move.

He doesn't seem to be in any discomfort, I've pressed around on his abdomen no firm spots (had it with my last diabetic baby, Tiny, when he couldn't poop), I've even watched him while in the litter box and no signs of problems. He has bowel movements but they're just small for such a large cat and he seems to be eating a decent amount. Guess I'll just need to ask the vet to check when he goes back to get his eye and blood sugar checked.
