someone whom i don't know (non-member) contacted me thru rebecca. her poor kitty did'nt make it and she's donating some stuff to newbie kits. one thing she offered is a 2 month old bottle (i think, but i asked her to specify) of lantus.
i need you guys to let me know.
is that good anymore?
how should it be sent, temp wise?
and possibly if it is good should i ask her to just send it here to your collection club?
let me know asap k
lori
if it turns out she has good lantus and you guys want it but it needs expensive shipping regulations can i tell her you might be willing to pay? she might want to but just in case.
since she's not a member, it's hard for you to communicate with her yourselves.

Just bumping up and saying thanks for thinking of Lantus Land. Opinions differ on two-month-old Lantus. But of course, free beats $100.

did i mention it's been opened?
thanks for bumping.
who's in charge of that commitee of lanus collectors?

lori, can the person smell the vial and say whether it smells strongly like bacon? that smell is the best clue i've had that the lantus isn't good any more. generally they say it lasts 28 days for sure but mine has lasted over 2 months. not sure if it would last 8 months, tho, like the pzi vet did.

Sarah/Velcro is the person you should be in touch with. Unless we can find someone in the donor's geographic area, I'd be concerned about shipping an open bottle that really needs refrigeration.

Bad Lantus smells like bacon?? :o Lantus in general has an antiseptic smell (some say Band-aid smell) but I've never heard of a bacon smell.

Has the person been handling the bottle carefully? No rolling, shaking, pushing insulin back in, etc?

Ya know...maybe i should see if i can get her phone # and get her in touch with..sara if she's the person in charge. this person just lost her kitty...i don't know how i can transcribe all the info back and forth plus shipping options without these two people speaking.
well, hope you guys end up with a useable vial.

ok, i got a phone #...is anyone in the LLEF club available? pm me k and you can call her.

oh, yes, squeem3, bad lantus definitely has that strong bacon smell. i received 1 bad vial and 2 bad cartridges in the past and whew the smell was noticeable in all 3.

other than that, i think lantus lasts a lot longer than many give it credit for. i believe lisa & merlyn's vial lasted over 7 months. mine have all lasted over 2 months except for the 3 bad ones (2 were donated).
