my mr b's labwork shows 3.9 which is just a hair away from hypokalemia.

he has had hind leg weakness over a year now, but potassium levels were healthy until recently. we had always chalked off the weakness to diabetic neuropathy. he's been on b12 both oral and subQ for a long time.

it seems the hind leg weakness has gotten worse, which could be the potassium or not. he's got a lot going on now with the SDMA Idexx showing early kidney troubles.

so my question is anyone do potassium supplements? injections? i realize its not to be trifled with without a vet's ok, but my vet has not responded to me so i'm researching in meantime.

Sorry to hear his LW are getting worse, one of my civies has some kidney issues and I give her Renal K from vetoquinol every day is a gel and I she just licks it from my finger, it did helped her numbers from one month to another you could check with your vet

thank you someone else suggested that too - looking it up now

yes i noticed that.

they have a powder that appears to be the potassium and nothing else. thats what i'd get if my vet says yes.

I've been using the Vetoquinol Renal K+ Powder Dog & Cat Supplement, 100g container from Chewy.com ($17.07) for about a year now... I mix it in a little tuna juice... works well and no prescription is needed.

Thanks. I buy from chewy all the time. They'ree great.

I have used Now brand powdered potassium for my CRF cats when necessary. Just mixed with food

How much do you use? It looks like i'll be getting the now potassium gluconate. The veotquinaol gel has sweetener, the powder has hydrolized meats including poultry which mr b is allergic to.
