Hi everyone,

I know I've seen some guidance on measuring drops of insulin, but I've done some searching and can't seem to find it now that I need it. Does anyone have it handy?

One method, which depends on the brand of syringe you are using, is to compress the plunger hard, insert into vial/cartridge, and then release. This can pull in one drop of insulin, but make sure that when you push the syringe again that a drop actually comes out. I learned that the hard way - this worked with one type of syringe but not another. Practice with water and see if your syringes will give you one drop with this method.

Thanks, everybody. It seems that with the plunger at the zero line, I can get two drops out of my ReliOn syringes and one drop from my BD syringes. Going to try MJ's method next.
 
MJ, that is a great trick! Worked with the BD syringes, but not the ReliOn. Also seems to be important to keep pressing the plunger, even as you remove the needle, so that the drop doesn't get sucked back into the needle. We'll see how this goes.

Funny thing about this experiment was that as soon as I got the Lantus vial out of the frig to practice, both cats came running, expecting the treat I give both of them when I shoot. Sorry for the confusion, boys!
 
Yes, you have to keep the plunger firmly depressed after shooting the cat while you pull it away or that drop can be pulled back in. But it seems to be more reproducible than an estimation made with lines on the syringe. 1 drop is just so small.
