Possible remission? 2nd opinion?

Hi all,

I am still new to this, about 2 weeks since diagnoses. We started transitioning my cat over to wet food about 3 weeks ago, he is now about 95% wet food. His levels with home testing seem to have dropped quickly this week and he is barely needing his insulin. Is it possible for him to be heading into remission already? I assumed cats would take months to regulate and then possibly go into remission? As you can see I haven't been giving him a shot if his levels tested ok and it seems I now barely need to give him any. I am going to keep testing every 2 hrs today and I'll do a curve on Wed if he ends up needing insulin that morning. Just asking for someone to look at his spreadsheet and tell me what they think :)

He could be a "diet controlled" diabetic! Looks like that's how it might end up. Once you get him completely off dry he might not need insulin at all. How wonderful that would be!
What insulin do you use?
I'm sure the pros will be along soon to help out more than I can. I don't have experience with remission or regulation but I do know a cat can be controlled by diet alone.

We are using Lantus, just his doses are getting so far apart! Do people still test their cats at least twice a day even if they are a diet controlled diabetic? I mean if his levels stay like this without shots for over a month do I still test multiple times a day? I did lots of research on insulin and home testing but barely any on remission as I thought that would take ages!

I believe you need 14 days "Off the juice" where you test am and pm before meals. I'm not sure about mid cycle testing in the 14 day trial. Once he's considered in remission I think I read here that once a week test. I could be wrong on that. If you go to the OTJ/honeymoon parts of this forum I believe they have "sticky" post at the top with more info. If they aren't there the lantus forum should have them at the top and possibly one on remission.
I use ProZinc so very limited info known on lantus.

That's what happened with Dusty, within a week he was OTJ. After that I would just test him weekly and as I got more comfortable every two weeks, then monthly and now just every now and then. I just keep an eye on his weight, his food intake, and pee amount. Hope Tynam is on his way to being insulin free. Remember, once diabetic always diabetic. He must never, NEVER, eat high carb dry/wet food or treats again.
